Do Tell: What Would You Do?

Macmeggy posted a great poll on a topic I love to ask people...If you were to find a suitcase with a large amount of money in it, what would you do?! Of course the "right thing to do" is turn it into the police, but come on! So ladies, do tell, if no one saw you discover the loot, what would you do with it?

If it was just a few thousand bucks or less I'd return everything, I mean, someone could be in big trouble. Otherwise, no way! Someone carrying around a ridiculous amount of money is certainly someone who doesn't need it so bad. I'd keep part of it to myself and send most to charity or something.

KEEP IT and send it on over to Sallie Mae! Student loans looming over your head are much more stressful than being caught with an "abandoned" case of cash.

I would take it into different banks and cash it for smaller sums. I wouldnt want all the money to trace back to me. Or take it to like a casino and cash it for one big check. Than I would pay off all my debt, put a big chunk in a mature savings account and than by the most posh ticket to London and get lost in the town.

I would honestly keep it but donate a large sum to charities that I'm interested in. I would also pay off some debt and put the rest in savings.

Whats so bad about keeping it? Any kind of deal involves cash in a suitcase is NOT going towards a good cause. And no individual with that kind of money is dumb enough to carry it around in cash. If you turn it in, it just becomes money lost in the system. What kind of shady dealer would claim his money at the station? If nobody saw (because you don't want people after you) there's no reason not to keep it!

I would turn it in. Anytime I know that someone has given me back too much change or credited my account too much, etc., I always make it right. When I was little, my mom made my sister return a nickel to the local gas station, when they "over-changed" her. My sister was pissed, but she did it anyway. My mom said, "If you know about it & don't return it, it's the same a stealing!" My conscience would get the best of me & you have to think about your karma!It would be tempting to keep a suitcase full of money, though.

I wouldn't like to take the chance that it's like counterfit or tagged somehow, so I would turn it in. If I was guaranteed that it was "safe" money, I'd keep it. :OOPS:

Well, lets see, no one saw me, hmm... okay, I would probably keep it for a couple of days because I know myself and I would be indicisive about the whole thing, turning it in or not. Then I would consult it with my mom, and she would tell me to do whatever I feel is right, to do the right thing, so I think I would just split the money with my parents and my brothers. I would also donate some money to an animal welfare group or do something good with it, I guess be philanthropic in some way. But of course, if I knew whose money it was, and deemed the person to be honest and essentially good, I would return it. If this person is questionable and really doesn't deserve it, I would think twice about it.
