Do Tell: How Has Your Family Influenced You?

From the day we're born, the people around us greatly influence who we will become. From our mannerisms to the way we interact with others, the brew of nature and nurture exerts its power over us.

When people meet my parents, they instantly understand why I am the way I am: my appearance, sense of humor, and my personality reflect a perfect hybrid of my mother and father. Ladies, we all have them; do tell, in what ways has your family influenced who you've become? And what about you seems uniquely your own?

I have my dad's goofy sense of humor, and my mom's issues with junk food as a way of life. I live with my grandma for 5 years when I first moved to LA and picked up on her hatred of spending money.

Wow, I could post a book on my family. I am so proud of them, and I love them dearly. My family influenced me by allowing me to be myself totally, by supporting me in everything I do, and by setting personal and professional examples themselves.They allowed me to be ultra creative in all things: writing, acting, painting and sculpting. They supported me throughout the time I was working on my Ph.D, even when I left my job at NASA to do so (Just got it in December 2006! Woot!). They are excellent examples of people who change the world. They are both retired, but they both worked with poor people in the South, and they currently volunteer in community programs there, too!

I have learnt nothing positive from my dad. I'm saying this because I know load and load of people have the same experience with their fathers. If anyting I've learnt is not to be like him. My mum, on the other hand, was an amazing woman. She was beautiful physically as well as mentally. She was probably the most graceful woman I've ever known. I've learnt to be still just like her. She was a foxy lady with a lot of manners and dignity.

Sadly pretty much everything negative about me stems from my parents. HOWEVER they showed me that my kids are more important than anything in this world and to always put them first before everything including myself. I learned from there mistakes

My mom influenced me to not be afraid to take risks (my grandmother is the exact same way) and I'm so glad they taught me that or else I would be stuck in the same "small town" mentality of where I used to live and I'd prob. still live there and be miserable. So I'm glad they taught me to not be afraid of anything and def. not to let any grass grow under my feet. When I wanna do something, they encourage me to do it and not be afraid. There's tons more but I don't feel like typing that much LOL

I can only say wonderful things about my family. My parents sacrificed so much for my sister and me they have taught me to help others and to only do what feels good in my heart. My mom has been there for me unconditionally and she's my best friend she gives me the most sound advice I call her my therapist LOL. I feel very lucky to have been born in this family.

My family influenced me the most by encouraging me to be me. There are 6 kids in my family and we are all entirely different. I give my parents total credit for that because it means they allowed each of us to be ourselves, explore ourselves, and become the people we want to be. You can't ask for more than that.

Oh man, where do I even start? My parents have influenced me in countless ways. I think they were both great role models, both in their unique ways. If I had to pick one good thing from each: 1) My Dad taught me to walk to the beat of my own drum and not apologize along the way. 2) My Mom has instilled in me a love of making things from scratch, be it food, clothes, cards, or whatever else. They have both encouraged me to make my own decisions along the way which is something I am also thankful for! And just in case you think it's all rosy, I would also say that I'm a bit of a worrier, and perhaps more stubborn than a donkey! And I blame my mom and dad for that, respectively :)

Well...one major thing my mother influenced me on is to not believe in organized religion. She is super christian and what she has done has turned me off to religion entirely!
