Do Tell: How Did Your Parents Meet?

I loved hearing about how all of you met your significant others a while back, and though some of your stories were very modern, most of you met the old-fashioned way, just like our moms and dads did. Since they didn't have resources like the Internet or match-making services to help them get a date, I'm curious to know how your parents met, so do tell!

My parents met because my mom went to school with my dad´s sister. My mom didn´t like him too much at first. They got married when mom was 20 and dad 23 and they split last October, a month before their 30th anniversary =(.

My dad saw my mother walking with her friends and wanted to meet her. He thought she had pretty legs. She was 13 and he was 15. They got married while in high school (no she was not pregnant, it was normal back then I guess) and it's lasted 39 years.

My parents met through school, which is rather boring, but my Grandparent's meeting i think is very cute. She was waiting for her Formal date to pick her up, but he ended up standing her up for her best friend. Although devestated, my Grandmother went to the formal alone and my Grandfather asked her to dance.

They met at college. He's an assistant professor while she was a student. He used to help her a lot with her assignments, they both were in engineering so actually there were more men than women in that department, so my mom was quite a hit with the guys, but she liked my dad because he's mature, kind and very helpful to everyone. While I ask my dad, he said that my mom was the most honest person he's ever known (my mom is BLUNT LOL) so that's why he appreciated her. They became a couple after my mom graduated. They've been happily married for 38 years now.

They met at college. He's an assistant professor while she was a student. He used to help her a lot with her assignments, they both were in engineering so actually there were more men than women in that department, so my mom was quite a hit with the guys, but she liked my dad because he's mature, kind and very helpful to everyone. While I ask my dad, he said that my mom was the most honest person he's ever known (my mom is BLUNT LOL) so that's why he appreciated her. They became a couple after my mom graduated.They've been happily married for 38 years now.

my mom was staying at her friends house, and my dad was the tile guy. she made him coffee, and after much pressure from her friend, went out with my dad. they got married in that house 6 months later, and we live 2 blocks away from the house now!

In college, my mom was accepted into the Honors Society and it was a senior's job to bring her a rose and congratulate her. My dad, being who he is, was two hours late, and handed my almost-devastated-for-not-getting-in mom her rose. She was so miffed, snatching the rose and slamming the door. Then, two weeks later, driving to an event for uni, they were both stuck with the two supervising old crones. My dad made my mom crack up at all the wrong moments, and later at a baseball game bragged up his talent. When he was called to plate and swung out each time, he was so embarassed as my mom laughed and laughed. He tossed a bat at her and told her to do better. She hit a home-run. He was flabbergasted, but then went into his typical jokes and tried to salvage a little of his self-esteem. When my mom got home that night, she called her mom and said, "I met the man I'm going to marry, and I've never laughed so much in my life." Then, as she was describing the guy from Honors Society to a friend later that night, the other girl went, "Wait! I know him! He's my boyfriend's best friend!" :P So it was a lot easier to get ahold of him, I'm thinking.

my mom was playing violin at a friend's wedding, and a guest liked her playing so much that he invited her to play at his wedding. my dad went to that wedding, and him and my mom started talking at the reception! :)

My parents met at the Imperial Operatic Society. My mum was the blooming diva, singing to the heavens, and my dad was the geeky, physics-studying stage manager. And it all started off from there. =D

my parents' story is like a lame hollywood film haha. My dad had to travel a lot for work (diplo) and one day he was at charles de gaulle airport waiting for his flight to rome to board and he sees " the girl of his dreams" (my maman!) laughing with her friends in duty free but he loses her in the crowd. He looks and looks for her but can't find her, but once he gets on the plane who does he see go by him but my maman - he was sitting in first class and she was going down to economy. So he like freaks, and kind of stalks her for the first half hour...going to the toilet 15 times and walking down the aisle a lot. Finally, she goes to the washroom, and my dad convinces the friend who was sitting next to her to change seats with him, saying that the "seats in first class made him dizzy".haha. So he takes his stuff and gets ready to sit next to my mama but she's out of it, sleeping like a child the rest of the whole flight, she didn't even notice her friend had abandoned her until she woke up at the end! My dad went nuts trying to wake her up by being very loud and moving his seat a lot but she slept through it all... Finally, the plane lands, and my dad's trying to make chit chat but she's grumpy when she wakes up (I inherited this:) so was kind of ignoring him. In the airport in Rome, my dad's still trying to think of a way to speak to her, and he takes the same elevator as her. The elevator gets stuck, believe it or not, just for 15 min or so, but by the time the lift doors open my parents are in luuuurve.... so lame, but it's true. It's a joke in the family, when anything breaks down, my dad will say that faulty engineering brought them together and the same might happen for you... ;)

My mom's older sister hooked them up. She was dating a friend of his and they met on a double date. Been together since my mom was 14 and my dad was 15. :)

Apparently my mum accosted my dad at the pub and asked him for a beer. It took seven years for him to pop the question, but they've been married for 25 years. :)

My dad was an intern in general surgery training, and my mom was a nurse...typical medical drama! He asked if he could drive her home, they got engaged after 3 months, but then my mom broke it off, not sure about another guy. My dad then told her "I am sad about this, but I will be ok.. I have my career". My mom realized that, yes, he could live without her, and asked for her ring back. They will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in July. :)

My mom was my dad's cousin's friend. They met at the cousin's house. Vietnam War... they get separated. My mom went to Australia and my dad went to Canada. When my mom was in Canada, they met up again and later got married!

my parents met through an early 'computer dating' program being run by a university - the program would match you up with several people and you'd write letters to each other. If you both agreed, you'd arrange to meet up. They got engaged only 6 months after their first date, and will have been married for 42 years this year!
