Do Tell: Do you See the Silver Lining?

I am a firm believer in fate and silver linings. Even when things don't necessarily go your way, somehow there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel if you will. So ladies, do tell, have you had a positive result out of a situation gone wrong?

Mine would be... the fact that after my 3 1/2 year relationship with my boyfriend ended suddenly almost a year and a half ago, it actually paved the way for us to be even better friends. I now consider him one of my best friends. And of course, if we hadn't broken up I wouldn't be with my wonderful boyfriend now of almost 9 months!

Well I do believe that we can learn from all experiences, good and bad(what doesn't kill you makes you stronger) however I'm not sure if that is what's meant by a silver lining ^^

humm, after reading these i guess i have always had a misunderstanding of silver lining. i thought of it as the whole last minute saving thing. recently i have changed the way i look at things and decided that when you don't get what you wanted you likely get something more valuable (like the true intentions or character of a "friend"). so i guess that is what the silver lining is meant to be. took me a long time to get to this point (duh), and it's mostly because it beats being disappointed,, not because i'm so optimistic.

I can think of a lot, actually! about a year ago my best friend and i had a falling out due to me having moved away from where we both grew up (a v. posh european capital). i had been crying about missing it and her for a year but when we met again we had become so different our friendship ended. still, i am thankful it has and that i did move on, otherwise i would have stayed the person i was before: superficial, stuck-up and mean, and would never have met or learned to appreciate my current friends and the other great people that fill my life. if i had not been sexually abused in my teens, i wouldn't have learned how to protect my body and say "no" when i meant it. if i hadn't been hit by a bus, i wouldn't have had my front tooth knocked out which is a source of endless jokes and party tricks.. lol and lastly.. if my last guy in a string of one-night stands and random hook-ups hadn't dumped me, I wouldn't have ended up sobbing on the shoulder of the wonderful man who was my good friend and is now my whole life. yay!

I have my current awesome job because of a car accident. I needed to make some extra money to fix my car so I started working part time for this company at night. Eventually they hired me full time and it's the best job I've ever had!

Lets see, in the same night I got in a car accident, I had to jump out of another moving vehicle to escape from someone trying to rape me. I sprained my wrist when I hit the pavement. And had to walk about 7 miles home in the pouring rain with no cell phone since I left my whole purse in the attacker's car. My silver lining, learning that I can SAVE MYSELF. "Party like a rock star, pound like a porn star, play like an all star!"

My silver lining situation also has to do with a guy. After ending a year and a half long relationship I dated a couple of guys and moved in with someone new, we ended up breaking up unexpectedly and I was pretty down about it. A month later I met this cute, sweet, intelligent guy and we've now been in a serious relationship for 4 yrs :) So I can definitely see that everything progressed how it should because had I not been single at the time I wouldn't have had the chance to meet the guy of my dreams!

About a month and half ago, I left my boyfriend. We were arguing all the time and we were both miserable. I had nothing and no where to live and it seemed as if there was no light at the end of this long, cold and dark tunnel. Today I have my own place, new furniture, great friends who supported me and and an excellent relationship with my ex. We communicate 100times better now and listen so much better. It hurt breaking up but I am okay with it now and see us being friends!

Oh yeah. I think everyone has. Mine happened last spring (one year ago). I met this guy who at the time seemed to be everything I wanted in a man. I had just come from a string of bad relationships and was in a pattern of bad decision-making. Well, the guy he was as interested in me, but not for a relationship. When he realised he couldn't get what he wanted from me without being in a relationship with me he went cold and gradually just drew away. This really really hurt me, and because of this and a whole lot of things that were happening in my life back then I spiralled into a deep depression. In that period I would constantly ask and second-guess God as to why he let this very painful experience happen to me. A week or so after I got out of the depression and decided to work on myself. Mentally, physically, emotionally, you name it - a total spring cleaning. I educated myself on my bad choice-making habits with regards to men and set out to consciously change my behaviours, and establish once and for all what I wanted in a future boyfriend. This was by no means easy and I kept falling but never gave up. In July my current boyfriend came into my life and he is everything all my previous boyfriends (who were jerks) weren't. To make matters even better, just two weeks ago, the guy that rejected me because I would sleep with him came back to ask if we could give it a try. And that's when I realised I had come full circle, and he had come into my life last year so I would clean house. And off course I rejected him soundly!
