A Do or a Don't: Taking Naked Picture When You're Pregnant

I know not everyone is comfortable being naked, but I've heard through many friends that being pregnant really gives you a new appreciation for your body.

Watching yourself grow as you prepare for motherhood is definitely a rite of passage, and it's a journey some like to capture on film. My mom still has Polaroids of herself when she was pregnant with me (in a tasteful manner, of course) and I think it's a really special memento to hold onto. I know it's not for everyone so tell me, do you think taking pictures of your naked body when you're pregnant is a do or a don't?

I am actually the lady in that picture. I loved capturing my pregnancy on film and felt truly beautiful for the entire shoot. I show my daughter them nowadays and she loves them...

I am all for nudity. But for me, prego or not, I am not a fan of nude photos of me. I just would be concerned who would get a hold of them. You want to see me nude, come by but leave the camera in the car and your clothes at the door.

I'm not sure what is more disturbing--naked pregnant pictures or dear sugar cherishing a naked picture of her mom.

It's interesting because I would NEVER do any tastefully/artistic nude photos of my non-pregnant body, but being pregnant made me feel so comfortable in my own skin--I felt like celebrating my body. I know that when you're ballooning every day, you start to feel fat and unsexy, and doing the artistic nude photos, made me feel like an attractive woman again.

Pregnant bellies freak me out, but I think as long as it's something personal to you (unlike on the cover of a magazine or displayed where everyone can see it), it's okay.

I'm pregangt right now and I'm documenting it! I don't want to be too naked in the pictures, though. Boobs showing i fine...They're for me and my husband only. I mean, since I'm carrying his child he's obviously seen what's shown in those pictures :)

What do people mean by "tastefully" done? I can't imagine a pregnant woman posing for super trashy photos (i.e. weird poses, positions and such), if that's what you mean. I personally get the feeling that people are refering to the possible notion that visible breasts in a pregnancy shot are "distasteful". If so, why? Just because the psycho-societal evolution in certain parts of the world, including ours dictates the accepted necessity of wearing clothes, breasts are distasteful? I think after some reflection and analytical (rather than preconceivingly judgemental) thinking we can all agree that having a woman's breasts show on film is hardly a distasteful image. As for the posters who are all up in arms about the "rite of passage" comment made by Dear, how could you disagree with the statement that when a woman is pregnant, she goes through a rite of passage? No one here, as far as I've seen, has suggested or implied that not undergoing that particular rite of passage makes you less of a woman. I think you're doing a disservice to yourselves and to the atmosphere on this site by being unecessarily defensive. This post was not meant to open a discussion on people's opinions concerning what your choice on the subject of childbearing means for your femininity...

I'm all for anyone who wants to take naked pictures! Pregnant or not! I hardly have any pictures of me pregnant, but I'm the picture taker in my family so it makes sense! ha ha ha But if you want to have pictures of yourself taken, then by all means do it!!!

I'm currently six months pregnant, and I am definitely in favor if the mom feels good about doing it. People keep asking me if I am going to get them done, and I am not sure. There are some days that I feel really great about my body, and then there are some days where I feel huge and gross. I have a couple of just belly pictures taken at different points of my pregnancy for posterity, so that may be all I do.

Wait, who said that it makes you less of a woman if you are "CFBC" or w/e. People need to chill out. If you're CFBC, than why would you even comment? I can see how one would say it makes you very womanly, because woman are what makes the world go round, (ie, by getting pregnant). Giving life is something that WOMAN do. So yeah, being a mom, just might make you more womanly.

i dont think childless people like myself have an opinion on the matter. who knows, maybe when/if i get pregnant i'd want to, but at this point in my life, naked pregnant bellies gross me out.

clarabelle98 - if EVERY woman in the world had a kid, that would not be a baby boom. The population would drop by 50%. In fact, if EVERY woman in the world had 2 kids, the population would still stay steady. So please lay the drama aside. That math point aside, I completely agree that it is not necessary to have a child to be a real woman. I went 35 years before getting pregnant and have definitely felt like a real woman the last 10 (child free) years. I guess I missed the comment(s) above that suggested you needed a child to be a woman. I don't see anyone making that point.

I think it's an absolute shame that you are made to feel like Less than a woman if you don't have children. It sickens me. I chose to have kids, but can you imagine if EVERY woman in the world DID? Oh my good lord, talk about a baby boom!So to those that make the VERY VALID choice not to have kids, THANK YOU! You make it possible for those of us that DO want kids to have them and not overcrowd the world!
