Dear Poll: Are You Shy or Outgoing?

While we may love a shy guy, being shy ourselves can pose many difficulties out in the world. You easily get pegged as stuck-up or can just end up completely overlooked. Being outgoing, on the other hand, typically avoids both those stereotypes and lends itself to meeting new people. But even so, I still think there’s something to be said for a woman who chooses to sit back and just observe. Neither is better or worse, but which are you?

I don't understand why some people see shyness as a personality flaw, or that it means you are stuck-up. I don't see how that adds up :shrug: I usually grativate toward people who are quiet or "shy" but once you start talking to them, they tend to be extremely open and talkative.

Being shy has its benefits, so you who are should be glad for the many situations that you have evaded by being invisible and/or wiser than some of us.

I'm very extroverted, and I like people and getting attention. Being a blonde usually brings me plenty of both. But if I don't like the crowd or am getting creepy vibes, I either play it off or run. If I can't then I pretend to be shy which I have been doing a lot of lately. Where are all the fun people lately!!!

I'm really shy until I warm up. It's not like I won't talk to people but I feel really uncomfortable with them and don't look them in the eye. If I don't feel weird around a person when I first meet them I know that we'll be good friends. Sometimes you just know.

LMAO at the above comment..'short of showing up drunk all the time' haha. I am shy, but when people meet me drunk it helps me out, because I already got past the awkward part of meeting someone. If I don't know you, it'll take awhile for me to be myself around you. I have to be comfortable enough to know I can be myself. I usually do get both of those things happening to me-being called stuckup or just overlooked completely. And both of them suck, but hey, once you get to know me, I am reallly crazy and loud..I guess I'm the best of both worlds :)

I'm very shy at first, and if I could do ANYTHING (short of showing up everywhere drunk all the time) to be a naturally outgoing person I would. I really love myself the way I am, and most people, after they get to know me, do as well. But being shy and reserved can be a major, Major hurdle to overcome in the world, espically in dating and job interviewing (both of which I've been doing a lot of lately). I suppose a quiet person is more of a blank canvas for an outside observer to project all sort of assumptions onto, whereas an outgoing person really puts it out there and lets you know who they are right away (or who they want you to think they are).Looseseal really hit the nail on the head when she wrote "People give the shy all kinds of crap, as if it's some kind of mental deficiency."

I'm somewhere in the middle, but I think a lot of relatives would say that I'm shy because I was really introverted when I was younger. I still don't feel comfortable chatting up strangers in certain social situations, but I can be very outgoing and talkative when I'm with my friends or if I'm in a comfortable environment.

Middle of the road. :) My shyness is definitely situation dependent. I will get up in front of strangers and sing Karaoke and dance on stage. Hehe. I won't however open up or talk to new people readily.

When I'm with someone I haven't known for a long time I am outgoing but when it's with a guy that i liked but known for a long time i'm extremely shy! I hate that about me.

and YES, when I'm shy some people will definitely assume I'm stuck-up. It's not like I look at anyone the wrong way (each to their own), but why the hell are some people sooo damn sensitive? You don't talk/ want to hook-up with them and you're inmediately a cold uptight b*tch? I may be a bit of an ice queen, especially at first, but I'm not a mean person. And yet this happens to me most of the time... might it be something about me I just can't figure out myself quite yet? Probably! The only problem is I don't know what it is, so I can't change it either! :P

I am very outgoing and always have been. :) I have no problem talking with strangers or people I don't know.
