Dear Poll: Are You Pro-Choice or Pro-Life?

On Wednesday, I asked you what you would do if you found out you were pregnant right now, and the results weren't all that shocking. Just behind "keeping the baby even if you weren't trying" (39 percent) was "having an abortion," with 31 percent of the poll votes.

Based on your comments, some of you seemed to be pro-choice, some of you pro-life, and some of you seemed to be indifferent. While abortions have a profound stigma attached to them, we are all entitled to our own opinions, so what I want to know is....

First of all, an egg that has not been fertilised is not a human life. It has no features and cannot breathe, see, feel, smell or anything else. Secondly, women should have the right to choose, of course, but abortion has been used as contraception and that is wrong!

I am 100% Pro-LIFE! I also believe that if you vote for a candidate that is Pro-Choice, you are an accessory to murder.

Pro-choice. I can't imagine having an abortion, but if the pregnancy endangered my life or if the baby didn't have a chance at painless life, I would seriously consider it. I think babies should be born to loving families, or given for adoption to a loving family. And I understand that sometimes the circumstances are just too complicated. But I wish everyone was so responsible with the birth control as the people here obviously are:)

I used to be on the fence but I chose a pro-life stance in the last year. I hate that teenagers are getting pregnant and worse keeping these kids at 12 , 13 and 14 years old and I feel for the Grandparents that have to play the role of parents because their children are not good parents........in those cases im fairly indifferent. Its not a choice I would make but Its not something I loose sleep over. Im more bothered at abortion for birth defects. I will not take the moral high ground had I known of my son's condition before birth ) it would have been a temptation. To know your kid is going to be different, that beyond a doubt your kid is not EVER going to be the 'all star' that's a lot to take when your 17 weeks pregnant and you only have a few weeks to make a decision to either love your child despite their differences ........ or condemn them to death for them. Im so glad I didn't have to make that call because I could not have made an informed and wise decison. There is a documented case in Europe where women are having abortions for cleft lips. this is a fairly common birth defect that can be fixed pretty easily and yet the society we live in demands perfection and we as mothers are demanding that in the babies we bare. I hate when this topic comes up, its awkward for me to hear parents preach about their responsiblity to their other children as their justification for abortion? huh??? what message does that send to your children if a child you planned and wanted was aborted because you knew they weren't perfect? Its and interesting thought to share with me as HOw if I would understand , I can respect the hard decision and I can empathize but.... its a little to close to the nazi philosophy for comfort....... except we implement that philosophy on our own flesh and blood...which in a way is much more sadistic than Hitler.

I love it when people start bringing totally unrelated points into an argument. Like that having an abortion is somehow the same thing as enforcing the death penalty. That people can't see a difference is laughable.

Pro-choice doesn't mean you support abortion, but you supoort the fact that a woman should be given a choice. How is that wrong?And if it's based on it being a 'life', then why aren't you protesting the death penalty too.....

Also,behemoth the cat,not every woman that gets an abortion is simply because "the child doesn't fit into their schedule" it is usually because it is a teenage girl, a rape victim, a single mother, or a woman/couple that cannot afford to take care of a baby.

I am completely pro-choice.i believe that any woman that is pro-life would really be wanting an abortion if they were raped lets say.Yes, you could give the child up for adoption but going through 9 months of misery over being sexually assaulted is ridiculous.Also, i do believe that abortions should be done in the first tri-mester.But any woman saying she is completely against abortions just baffles me.

I'm one of the "Other" votes. I don't understand why someone who is Pro-choice cannot also be Pro-life, and vice versa. I'm Pro-Life. I think the health of the mother and future life of the fetus should be considered. The choice to have an abortion, or not, effects many aspects of many lives. Is it right to bring a child into the world when you know they are going to live their lives with an abusive co-parent, or spend their first 18 years on welfare, or required to raise themself because their parent is working 2-3 jobs to support them and is never there. How are any of these choices better than an abortion of a fetus? Either choice can be a good one or bad one depending on the situation.

I am Pro birthcontrol!!!!!!!! and basically Pro Choice... but i mean birth control is so readily available... there's like a 98% chance u wont have a baby.. I know things happen.. but come one ppl use ur heads...

I'm pro-life for several major reasons, one of them being simply that abortion is murder; it's the taking away of a life that had already begun to form. A lot of women don't give a second thought to taking that life away simply because at that particular moment the baby doesn't fit into their schedule. That sort of action is irresponsible, selfish, immoral, and should be condemned. Abortions should be legal for cases such as rape or a severe health risk to the mother or child, but there should be strict limitations on them. For example, they should only be allowed before the 12th week (before the zygote turns into an embryo), and a woman should only be allowed to have one abortion. This way at least women will pay more attention to contraceptives after they've had one. I've known stupid women who have had 2, 5 abortions simply because they don't want to bother with using a condom cause sex "doesn't feel that good", or they forget to take the pill. A woman who KNOWS she will have to have the baby if she forgets to take the pill, WILL remember to take it.

I don't care how "IGNORANT" you all say I sound I stand by my opinion. Do what you want to your body, chances are I don't give 2 sh*ts about you or your "baby". I keep reading "don't force your opinon on someone else" but exactly what are YOU doing? and rocknrepublic and remidos or whatever your name is, doesn't matter a bit if you stand "unchallenged" I said what I wanted to say and you read it so I already won. Doesn't matter if you agree or disagree you cared enough about what I had to say to read the whole thing -point blank period. And yes, any female knowing the risks of preganacy who has unprotected sex is still a DUMBASS. The chances of someone wearing a condom and using contraceptives getting pregnant is not even a WHOLE PERCENTAGE it's like .001% which in America is 1 out of several upon several millions of people, soooooooooooo GET SOME FACTS STRAIGHT, THEN TRY TO TEST ME. -I've said what I had to say. & I'm done with the whole thing.

I am pro-life..Had a baby at 18 and 19 and would not trade them for anything in the world, I cry often when I see them playing,cuz I think about all the rough times I had to go through but am so happy that they are here,When I got pregnant with my 1st child I was very scared, I had just graduated from a CHRISTIAN High School and knew that people would look down upon me..(which some did) , it was really hard,I lived with my parents still and my dad was verbally abusive and could be physically if pushed to the limit,I had my baby in March of 05 ,she was born healthy, I was feeling a high for the 1st few months,then one night me and the father were alone for the 1st time in months,we were stupid and just Did it (lol), the next couple of weeks were scary ( awaiting my period) ,when it didnt come I was super duper scared,how was I gonna tell my mom and dad ( strong christians) that I was pregnant again and still not married,I kept my pregnancy hidden for 8 months from them,people still ask me how I did it,when I had the baby my mom was crying and saying how could you do that alone for 8 months,it was a really tough time in my life ,but I am so glad that I did not get abortion and that I have my 2 beautiful baby girls and now my husband :)

Pro choice? I think some times abortions are necessary because of medical conditions and such however; many females use abortions are a form of birth control which is WRONG!!!!!!!! Use BCP, condoms or whatever but dont have an abortion, your grown enough to have sex then be grown and take care of you kid.

I'm pro-choice. Whatever anyone's thoughts on abortion are, it shouldn't effect other women's situations or thoughts on it. Abortion shouldn't be a form of birth control though.

I think that every women should have the ability to decide for themselves, and that all politicians and government officials should allow for choices, not make them for us.
