Dear Poll: Have You Used Plan B?

We all know that neither hormonal birth control nor condoms are 100 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. Since accidents can happen, we should all be grateful to have access to Plan B, otherwise known as emergency contraception. While it should not be used as a sole form of birth control, it's on the market for a reason. So tell me, have you ever had to rely on Plan B after a mishap in the bedroom?

I know someone who was having sex with someone, but the condom didn't break . . . it fell off inside of her because he was so small apparently. She was terrified and got the pill.

Just once. My bf and I were on a break and I slept with someone else. Condom broke...

I have bad experiences, as I once had to take three morning after pills during about four months. It wasn't any random sex as most would think, it was with my boyfriend of that time. The condom slipped off two times and once it broke, just a few days before I would have gotten my first every pills. I was so scared because you shouldn't take those more than three during a whole year.They worked, thank god, and since then I haven't had to take any. They didn't make me too sick, which I was glad of. Now I rely on Nuvaring to keep me from eating any of those again... and I just find it sometimes hard to trust condoms for a good reason.

i have a mutated fv leiden gene (i am predisposed to blood clots- no bueno) and have taken plan b three times...my condition means i cannot under any circumstances use hormonal birth control (the pill, the patch, depo-provera, IUDs, you name it). it's very risky for me to take plan b at all so i try to avoid doing it, but sometimes sh*t happens, i'm afraid. many women don't know they even have this gene mutation- i only know because my mom ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks with a pulmonary embolism after her cancer medication caused her to develop a blood clot in her lung. if you're on hormonal bc, i encourage you to get tested for this gene mutation- i'm sorry to say it's not terribly uncommon.

Though he uses condoms, there'll be at least one time when we wouldn't get the time to put the condom on and it'd be in my hand or under the pillow still and the mistake must have happened by then.Will someone tell me if that is like too much meddling with my hormones?

one time the condom fell off inside of me, so we both decided the best option was to go to planned parenthood in the morning and get plan b. i only took it that one time.

I've had it twice. The first time was because a condom came off on NEW YEARS EVE (yes, omg) in 2000 so it was actually pretty hard to find the Plan B back then!! The second time was last year when I had gone through a rough break-up and had a bit of risky sex to try and make myself feel better. :( I've since been tested for STD's (6 months after the encounter) and I'm 100% clean. I felt dirty the second time but the first time I didn't. I certainly wouldn't make a habit of it as it's pretty bad for your body.

Glam, you *might* want to use it if you miss a pill, depending on your particular brand of pill's instructions. Otherwise, you sound like you're doing great!

I actually don't know really WHEN to use it.... I'm in a committed relationship with my boyfriend, and I have been on a continuous pill usage where I NEVER get periods. (meaning I skip the placebo pills and go straight into regular pills) So I should be protected at all times....so how the hell do i know when i would need it? (I've had Plan B for like 2 years, but haven't used it yet)

Four times! Eep!I used to be very forgetful when I first went on the pill, and instead of risking pregnancy I would go for the EC.

I took it once and hated it. I had been late on a pill in the third week, and the condom fell off my BF when finished, so I took the PlanB pill. It totally threw off my period for that month, took an entire month to right myself after that. But have to say, glad that no child came of it!

I went off the pill while I was single, as I didn't want to pay for something I wasn't using and I couldn't see myself meeting anyone.Then, I did meet someone and I couldn't make an appointment to buy my pill for a while. I thought we'd be ok with condoms but one might have slipped, so I took Plan B to stop myself worrying.I much prefer to have 2 forms of contraceptive for this exact reason.It's funny, a lot of people think $40 is a lot. Well, yes, it is, and obviously, taking plan b is not something that should be used in place of reliable, ongoing contraceptive, but to be perfectly honest, I feel incredibly lucky that I have access to it. On top of that $40 is nothing for my peace of mind!
