Dear Poll: Does Seeing Your Friend Have a Baby Make You Want One, Too?

A friend of mine recently had a baby. She's a glowing, amazing mom and she makes it look so easy. Of course, she's super honest about how tired she is, how much work it is, and how she can't even think about having sex right now, but at the end of the day, she's loving being a mom. Now I'm nowhere near ready to have kids, but watching her has definitely gotten me more excited to one day be a mother myself. So whether or not the time is right for you, let me ask you this: Does seeing a friend have a baby make you want one, too?

I really really do want one and my fiance does too! But I'm in college right now so i think is best if i wait. I'm gonna get married next year, but my fiance is in the Navy, so there for that's another reason why i want to wait. Once i marry him I'm gonna go and live with him meaning I'll be away from my family. So I don't want to have a baby knowing he will get deployed and i'll end up being alone in a place I'm not familiar with. But if none of these things were going on i would definitely have one even if that meant putting school aside for a few months.

I just went to a birthday party for my friends one year old, and literally everyone except for my fiance and I had children or were pregnant. It is contagious, all of our friends are pregnant!! I kind of feel like I want to be too, but don't think I am ready to be responsible for someone the rest of my life. That is scary!!

no way! and just because my friends are doesn't mean i want to..it's not like picking up a new hobby...it is starting a new life! i definitely want to wait til im much older and in my 30's

Nope, it confirms for me that my husband and I made the right choice of being child-free. We're enjoying married life, without children. It's a lovely lifestyle, and it's the right one for us.

When I see married people or pregnant women, I want it to. However, I don't really want children, so it's weird. I just feel like it's such a wonderful experience feeling a life forming inside of you, but I wouldn't want to raise a child for 18 years. Getting married seems fun for the wedding planning and wedding day part (and being with the man you want to spend the rest of your life with), but I'm too young for that, now.

ive been married for almost 3 years and im still in college so me and my hubby are putting off kids till i graduate.. but i totally want one soo much!!! my bff is preggers, and that totally makes me want one of my own too lol

I couldn't possibly agree more with JenFan! I've always thought pregnancy was gross and babies were ugly and annoying, and at 27, I'm starting to think I will always feel this way. I'm a practicing artist, and also working on my PhD, and for me, academic and artistic accomplishments mean way more than spawning -- that's something animals do all the time! It's not exactly an achievement, and I don't enjoy hearing about people's icky pregnancy and childbirth stories, or how "intelligent" their spoiled brats are. My boyfriend and I have talked about this, and I think he may want kids someday, which scares me. I'm hoping he will see the greatness of ADOPTION!!!

heheh..definitely no! I personally have never wanted kids to begin with and little has been done to change my mind. I was surprised to see so many ladies on here feeling the same way I feel...I'm the only person of ALL my friends who doesn't really want kids and never has. Sometimes I feel as if there is something odd about me for feeling like this in this seemigly baby-obsessed culture.But its nice to see there are quite a few ladies out there who don't think that breeding is necessarily the way to enlightment! Thanks girls!

It bugs me that the quiz options are basically, yes, yes, and "I'm having fun being single."1) It implies that neither of the first two options include the case of having fun being single.2) There's no option (humorous or otherwise) for "I have no plans to have kids, single or not."I guess that's what "Other" is for, but it sure makes it seem like you're supposed to fit into one of the first three options. :(
