Dear Poll: Do you Use your Work E-Mail to Engage in Less than Professional Banter?

These days, working professionals are spending more time behind their desks than with their loved ones. With that said, communicating with the opposite sex over the internet is the easiest way to date, make plans, get caught up, and even simply flirt. I think we can all agree that it makes your day fly by when you carry on some fun, playful banter with your new crush -- but what about engaging in unprofessional conversations over your work e-mail? We all know every keystroke you make on your work computer is recorded, but what I want to know is, do you still engage in less than professional conversation over company e-mail?

At anytime they choose, your bosses can elect to look at your mail file and see what you have been writing. I know, I work in IT.Mostly they do because of performance, but why not be safe about it? Log into your webmail for your personal account if it's that pressing.

No- they scan our PC's like mad! (I work for a software company) so for me- that's a big no-no.

I use my work email to forward things. I also use my private email for somethings that I don't want anyone at work to see.

The email programme we use at work has an instant messenger, so I use that instead.

I think it's unprofessional but then again I'm quite uptight with things like this. I know people have used their work email with me before I thought it wasn't very professional

I send and receive e-mails from my husband at work, like what do you want to do for dinner, etc., but anything sexy comes from our personal accounts.

Most employers read and moniter Internet activity. So, I don't bother with personal business at work.

I NEVER send personal email from work, but I sure use the internet, love my Gmail. And my BlackBerry. I just don't want my personal business going through company email.

I've never written anything TOO juicy, but I will send personal emails (i.e., to my boyfriend, best friend while she's at work too, and my family) from my work address. HOWEVER, we have a pretty lax policy on internet usage and most things in general. I work for a small (10 employee) IT firm/software company, and we are very casual. All of my bosses wear jeans to the office, and we have a lounge with numerous bottles of liquor for "company meetings." My company's philosophy is work hard, play hard. They've told all of us that they won't look at our email or internet usage unless there's a job performance issue.I would definitely avoid personal emails, etc. at work if I worked in a more formal environment, though. :)

I have found that an outgoing msg. sent to a potential suitor that says, "anything that is less than pg rated, please send to my personal email account" is effective. After all, you don't want to discourage them from writing something juicy! ;-)
