Dear Poll: Do you Live in the Shadow of your Sibling?

Ashlee Simpson, Haylie Duff and Nicky Hilton are just some celebrities that are constantly living under the shadow of their more famous sisters. Sometimes it is nice to have the support of an older or younger brother or sister who has been there, done that, but it can also be somewhat disconcerting to always be compared and criticized next to your sibling.

So what I want to know is, do you ever feel the effects of sibling rivalry?

For me, it kinda depends. I mostly feel over-shadowed by my older sister and younger siblings. My older sister gets a ton of attention because she is smrt, beutiful the oldest the first to do stuff, she seems pretty perfect to me. Since she is the oldest, she goes through stuff first and because we are only a year apart, When it becomes my turn it's not as great my parents just got done seeing it with Racquel. And then my little siblings are very young still and need soooo much attention. Every thing they do is just so gret nd wonderful and when they aren't doing something wonderful they ae getting in trouble but still getting attention. It seems like there isn't much left for me. I often stay to myself becuse I feel like no matter what I do I will never get attention for it, because my siblings are 'more important'. My parents have even admitted it once or twice. It just kinda sucks to be a middle child and so close behind an older sibling. but there are times when we are treated equal.

oh yes my two sisters are very famous in our city and almost in our province because one is doctor and the other is a university she is professor? i dont know in english she teachs in almost ten universities

i'm not living in anyone's shadow, but both of my brother's were such aweful children/teens (ranaway, did drugs, getting arrested a lot, etc...) that i can't make a mistake without my parents flipping out or making me feel like i'm gonna end up miserable like them....i hate it. seems like they don't care about my brothers as much as they do me, and that kills me b/c i love my brothers and hate that they see them as failures when they have accomplished a lot more than they give them credit for.

My younger siblings were always the popular ones. I never did have a lot of friends, but at least I can say that I have real friends. It still sucks to be overshadowed by my siblings though.

I have three sisters, and don't feel like there was ever a clear favorite with our parents. It was always more important that we be a favorite to one another. To this day if I say something too nice about one sister one of the other ones will get jealous. Ditto for me, because they should all love me the best right?

I have two older sisters. The oldest was valedictorian, 4.0 G.P.A, early acceptance into a GREAT pharmacy school, and is married to a gorgeous hilarious account. She also happens to be a great cook, totally adorable and 5 foot 1. My other older sister was on 4 different sport teams, was the object of every guy in her schools affections, social butterfly, has blonde hair, blue eyes is 5 foot 5, is dating a totally hot Australian basketball player, and is loved by all. I on the other hand, am 6 feet tall, completely average in every way and am kind of a nerd. I love all things electronic, especially Mac, classic books and music. I have been living in their shadows my WHOLE life and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Not that I don't love them with all of my heart, but I have never known anything different.

I come from a very abusive, violent family, so both my brother and me got treated badly and unfairly most of the time. We're both adults now and we're trying to move on with our lives. Moving away from home was probably the best thing that's ever happened to me.

My parents treated all my brothers better and they had favorites. to this day I being the only girl, my family don't have anything to do with me. I am a sister, but you would think I was a stranger,I wish my family would be a family to me as they are to all my brothers, all five of them, the eldest 31 the youngest 1, me 29- by myself! I wish we were treated equally- but unfortunately in my family that has'nt happened!

well im the oldest one in my family. so my mom puts a lot of pressure on me to do well in school and set a good example for my younger sister.

I don't get the same attention that my brother receives, but he receives the negative attention. I could never get my parents to acknowledge anything good that I did (still can't), but they were super attentive to him because he was always the "problem" child. If I ever wanted attention I had to act out and get negative attention for them to notice me.

Both of my sisters are really smart, did well in school, and never got into trouble. Though my parents rarely put pressure on me to be like them, I think I put the pressure on myself. I rebelled a bit when I was in high school but then pulled it together in college. All three of us are completely different and our parents loved us uniquely and the same amount.

You guys are gonna hate me, I was actually the favorite child [my parents even say so] Basically my brother is the "spoiled" child he gets all the physical stuff he wants, but my parents would treat me with more respect than they did him.

Option 2 sums it up for me. Although, I have a brother who is 2 years younger then me and I was always the rebel and the difficult teenager and my brother was always the good little boy, so I think for a while I felt that my parents were more proud of him then they were me, but now at 25 I know that they never loved one of us more then the other. :)

I think option 2 is mostly accurate for me, but that doesn't mean I don't feel compared to my siblings (I have 2 brothers and a sister). I wouldn't trade them for anything though...

In my family it really depends. My sister is way better at a lot of things but there I things that I excel at as well so we stick to what we do best and look towards each other for advice/help in the areas that we are lacking.

Pfft, mine was opposite, I had 2 brothers who could do whatever they wanted, date party, get bad grades.... I on the other hand was expected to do the entire opposite... I brought home a B once and was grounded for over a month.. my brothers consistently brought home c's and d's and never heard a word about it.... I was expected to be excellent while they were whatever they really wanted to be... it seriously sucked.

my older brother was (and still is) the "golden child" of the family. it's like he can do no wrong. since i'm the second oldest, and the only girl, and i have a little bit of a rebellious streak, i am totally the black sheep of my family. the problem is that even though my bro did lots of crazy things, he never got CAUGHT. so i'm the one who looks like the bad seed, when he's just as bad as me. even now that we're both grown and married, and he's still the favorite of my parents. i've just come to accept it as fact.
