Dear Poll: Do You Turn Your Phone Off at Night?

We live in a very connected world, and while I do enjoy my alone/quite time, I also like to feel close to my loved ones, which is why I keep my cell phone on throughout the night — you know, just in case! I do understand how irritating late-night interruptions can be, so tell me what you do!

Most of my life, even before days of cell phones you didn't take your phone off the hook at night. Maybe your cousin Joey will need you to bail him out for a DWI or something. You never know.Anyway most people leave the phone on at night since the time when it's least likely to ring anyway. However I often turn my phone off when I drive or many other times of the day when I feel it's just not a good time to talk. I don't' chat while buying groceries, trying on clothes, or a bathroom break for God's sake. I see so much of that going on. It's considered a good thing by most experts to turn yourself off and disconnect for a while. All those demands for instant answers will have to wait until you're good and ready. It's called having an authentic life.

I keep it on, but I sleep hard enough that I never hear it ringing anyway. HAHA! Take THAT night callers!

I keep both of them turned on - work and personal. I work with vulnerable people who could be made homeless at a moment's notice so they both stay on.

I turn it off only when I'm home.If anyone needs to reach me that's what my home phone is for.

I keep mine on. Theres always been a need for it to be on, such as a loved one in hospital, my dad's on a business trip or my partners on holiday with his parents. Now it's just habit. And it's my alarm :p

My phone is my alarm clock, so it stays on, with the ringer, all night. But I also don't know anyone who would call me after 11PM unless it was an emergency, and I'd rather know than not get the message until the next morning. I've been victim to a few drunken texts from strangers who were either not good at putting numbers into their phones, or thought they got a number and was lied to. Confusing, but not annoying enough to warrant turning off the phone for sleeping.

mine is set to go silent between midnight and 6:45. Since i don't start work these days till noon, i don't have ANY reason to be up before then.

I also use mine as a back up alarm (and when I turn it off the alarm doesn't work). It's funny because I have a land line that I do turn off. Go figure!

Yeah, late night calls are the best bc either it's drama, emergency(not good), or drunk friends/ex's/ bfs and etc....

I keep my phone on at night. It's our alarm, and it's also the only way for my family to get in touch with me in the case of a late night emergency (we don't have a landline).

I keep mine on because a) I have children and I don't want to miss an emergency call b) It is my only phone c)It's my alarm clock. My phone stays on vibrate most of the time because of work so it is already there at night.

FYI to all the girls that keep it on just as alarm clock: you can set the alarm and turn off the phone and it still will ring as your alarm on time! ;) they have internal clocks.

I keep it on with the alert if I'm not sleeping with my man. When I'm with him I have it on silent because I wouldn't want him waking up to various email alerts.

I leave it on. My family lives on the other side of the world so they tend call me at all hours not realizing it's the middle of the night. I don't mind it too much though.

If my phone rings at 4:00 am it's more than likely an emergency. When I was living in London my grandmother died and my parents called in the middle of night my time to tell me - I'm glad I was able to answer that phone call. What if a friend was in trouble? What if a family member was rushed to the hospital? I'd rather miss a few minutes of sleep...
