Dear Poll: Do You Think Your Dreams Mean Something?

Though a particularly intense dream can haunt you all day, unless you’re the sort to write down all your sleepy escapades in a dream diary, most of the time it’s easy to forget a dream within minutes after waking. Admittedly I’m not organized enough to keep track of mine or look up their symbolism in a dream dictionary, but sometimes I wish I paid closer attention because I do think dreams can reveal a lot about particular anxieties swirling in our minds. Then again, maybe they're just a mishmash of life all thrown together. What do you think? Do dreams hold meaning?

well, my bf tells me the meanings and95% of the time hes right. i believe that dreams can hold deep meanings but i dont always depend on them or anything

I had the craziest dream that i was a girl but had a penis and was having sex with a girl on the side of her stomach. strange, also because in the dream i was like 11.

I can always make some sort of sense out of my dreams. They are certainly not random. They don't really reveal anything earth shattering, but I do feel they exist for a reason.

i just got done reading two james patterson books in a row and then last night had a dream that a serial killer was prying off my finger nails i think that most times my dreams reflect subconscious thoughts...altho there are sometimes im not sure why i dreamt of someone/something

I am a firm believer that dreams do mean something. I am always looking up what my dreams mean!

"I don’t think they’re completely random, but I don’t think they hold any deep meaning either." Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't people dream crazy things like that b/c the part of your brain that keeps everything in order when you are conscious shuts off when you sleep. So your dreams only mean a little bit b/c they are real thoughts, ideas, emotions, images, etc. that you have, but when you sleep your brain throws them together in a random order...an order that isn't necessarily how you really view those ideas, emotions, images, etc.

i do remember my dreams 90% of the time. but i think its because when i was little my dad used to ask me what i dreamt about and we would write it down first thing. if you train your brain to remember you usually can. or when you get in bed that night you might have flashbacks because the act of going to sleep might trigger something. i usually look them up in my dream dictionary and write them down, helps me to analyze them!

I totally think they mean something, even if it's just sifting through all the crap you've experienced throughout the day. My most recent dream occurred the night before I saw Hellboy II and it happened because I had just finished watching the cast commentary for the first movie before dozing off. It consisted of HB keeping a secret stash of kittens to eat. Creepy, but amusing at the same time. :D

A lot of dreams I have usually consist of whatever I was doing that day, day before and day of, and what I plan to do. It also depends on how stressed I am so when I search my dreams they are usually correct and what I already know.

i think they do. when i was little i once had a dream that a tiny man was trying to break into my house through the A/C vents (not possible... i know, it was a dream) Buuuut. the next morning when i woke up i was telling my big sister about it. she freaked out because aparently in the middle of the night someone had come to our house, slashed the screen windows trying to get in. luckily they were all locked. weird.

I have had a lot of dreams about a recently exed boyfriend just because there wasn't really any closure. It's like he's haunting me. He usually isn't the focal point of the dream, sometimes he is just "passing through". But it is always enough to wake me up and make me feel horrible. Hopefully they will stop soon.

I remember most of my dreams. There are usually symbols within all of my dreams that are usually relevant to my everyday life. On occasion parts of my dreams have come true.

I remember a lot of my dreams but don't really put much stock into their deep meanings. I have had a few really strong dreams that have triggered intense emotions as they felt SO real. I can remember them vividly as well and once, when I was telling my Dad about one I burst into tears because the emotion was so strong, especially when I have contact with people I know that have passed away. I swear that it's their way of contacting me or whatever (that sounds a bit loops I realize). It's a beautiful thing to have such dreams but really emotionally draining sometimes!

About 80% of the time I remember my dreams because I take time out of my day to try to remember them :D. I am totally fascinated by dreams and sometimes I spend the whole day just thinking about it. I think dreams hold a lot more meaning to our own minds then we think.
