Dear Poll: Do You Groom Down There When You're Single?

Women take bikini waxing very seriously. Even if there's just one hair that shouldn't be there, we somehow manage to find it, especially during bikini season or when we have a boyfriend. But what about when you're single? Sure, some women are just as neurotic when they're unattached, but others use their single status as an excuse to skip out on tending to their bikini lines altogether. So where do you fall? Do you still groom down there when you're single?

Sorry. I can't get over GlowingMoon and her toothbrush. Hahaha.But I hate it when it comes to that time of the month and I'm shaved/waxed. It feels so icky and messy. Just. Ew. Because I'm single at the moment I only wax around my inner thighs.

Most of you women here are full of BS in saying that keeping down there hairless has nothing to do with men and to go further and say that you only do them for yourselves. If so, then why blame society and men for "creating" such a standard! Wonder why society and men don't take your gender seriously? THIS is why. Your conflicting belief system and your worthless blame.

I've been shaving since I was fourteen, and everyone I've dated since I was a teenager seems to like it smooth, although each have said that it is my decision. I did not do it in the first place to please a man. I decided that that was what I want, and I don't think I'll ever go back to hair down there. I probably shave twice a week or so, less frequently now that my boyfriend and I are not sleeping together [we've decided to wait until we're married]. I got a Brazilian once, and have been waiting ever since to get the chance to go back. It was a bit strange, just the situation, and it hurt a bit, but the girl said that it always hurts more the first time, because the root has had years and years to settle in there. I'll be going for another Brazilian in a few weeks, and I can't wait!

I'm in the same boat as pinkmermaid23. When I get to see my man I like to "prepare". But when he isn't around I don't stress over it too much, it irritates my skin and itches :(

I'm in a long-distance relationship so when I don't see my bf I usually take "breaks" from waxing and shaving, simply because it saves me a lot of time. Also, we're never apart for too long it's not like I'm growing a bush.

haha I'm not single, but I am in a long distance relationship and I know I like to not worry about it when we're seperate. it gives me one less thing to stress over and it also makes it kind of special (corny, hahahaha) when I do it to see him!

Exactly sunnyheart! I wonder the same thing. I've always wanted to get a wax (not a full Brazilian), but I'm afraid! lol I keep the hair trimmed and shave the sides but I've only done a full hair removal once and it was itchy and annoying when it grew back in.

I have to agree with jnnyvox and the others. I didn't know what to say when I went on a date this month, and not only was the man disappointed that I wasn't completely shaved, so was he! This is not the first shaved man I've met. I teach children/pre-teens, and this is a TOTAL turn off for me. I cannot get aroused if my man looks like an eleven year old, or expects me to look like one. Doesn't it creep people out to look like a pre-teen?

So it's more hygienic to be bushy? Sorry, I find that theory questionable. I don't want to get graphic, but to me, that's like saying having underarm hair is more hygienic. It's true that hair can filter out unwanted stuff, but it can HOLD ON to other stuff, too. Not to mention the extra warmth, and possible extra sweating. Don't get me started when the monthly girlfriend arrives. Again, I find it questiontable that being bushy is more hygienic. I've been unwaxed before, and I find it much easier to maintain myself now that I'm waxed (and trimmed. Again, I'm not hairless).Oh. About using soap downstairs -- I had the same concern, so I use Cetaphil only. As you may know, Cetaphil is gentle, and I think it may be PH balanced. Also, I GENTLY scrub with an extra-soft toothbrush to clean and exfoliate (to prevent in-grown hairs).

Well I have not been single in a long time, but I did keep it up when I was single. Not as regularly, but I did. But now I do take little breaks now and then when the man is out of town for a few weeks.

I lived down south near the beach so I always have to be ready in case I'm invited to a last minute bikini outing. Also it just makes me feel better to be groomed.

It's because I'm training for a triathlon and I'm in a bathing suit 3 times a week.

I must not be a normal woman since I don't take waxing very seriously, nor am I constantly checking my crotch for strays. I have been vigilant about waxing lately, but not for my BF. It's because I'm training for a triathlon and I'm in a bathing suit 3 times a week.

It's part of my routine grooming. I usually do it while shaving my legs, which is about 2 times a week. Single or not, I do it to keep clean. I would do it more often, but using highly perfumed soaps/shaving creams disrupts the pH level inside the vagina. This often leads to an uneven growth of bacteria on vaginal walls, which can cause vaginitis or other mild inflammations of the sort. Shaving twice a week down there is still unrecommended, according to my doctor, but I can't help it! I love having smooth skin and being hairless is quite important to me, single or not.
