Unfortunately, all the excitement from the holidays is over, and it's time to get back to work and normal life. Some of you may be relieved that all the shopping, wrapping, baking, stress, and traveling are over but there may also be a part of you that's sad, too. There are months of build up and then poof, it's over which can leave you totally letdown. So how do you deal with post-holiday blues? Here are some ideas:

  • Plan something to look forward to. Have a dinner party, or plan a weekend getaway to visit some friends. It'll take your mind off the fact that the holidays are over, and it will give you something new to be excited about.
  • Don't keep your sadness bottled up. Talk to a trusted friend or relative. If you see a therapist, now would be a good time to schedule an appointment. If you don't feel comfortable talking to anyone, write down your thoughts in your journal.
  • Take time for yourself. The holidays are all about thinking about others, so now is the time to do things that make you feel happy and good about yourself.
  • If you're upset because you spent way too much money over the holidays, get some financial advice and figure out how you can get yourself out of debt.

  • Exercise. It's sure to change your mood and lift your spirits.
  • Get outside and into the sun as much as you can, even if it's freezing cold out. If that's not an option, turn on extra lights in your home. The brightness will make you feel more energized.
  • If you're upset because time with your family wasn't what you expected or didn't really happen, make plans with them and talk about things. The stress might have gotten to them too, so spending time together after all the craziness may allow for a more special experience.
  • If you're upset because you didn't follow through with last year's resolutions, forget about them and make new resolutions that are realistic and attainable.
