Oscar Date 411: Daniel Day-Lewis

When Daniel Day-Lewis was giving his acceptance speech for his best actor Oscar Sunday night, he said, "Since we got married 16 years ago, my wife has lived with some strange men," calling her the "perfect companion to all of them." The most recent man being Abraham Lincoln, of course, who Daniel played in the film that earned him his Oscar, Lincoln.

In 1996, the British actor was working on the film adaptation of The Crucible and visited playwright Arthur Miller. Daniel was introduced to Arthur's daughter, Rebecca, and the two were married later that year. Daniel and Rebecca have two boys together, Ronan and Cashel, and Daniel also had a son named Gabriel with his ex-girlfriend.

Rebecca has made a name for herself in film, too, thanks to writing and directing roles in movie adaptations of her written works: a short-story collection titled Personal Velocity and the novel The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, which became a film starring Robin Wright Penn, Blake Lively, Julianne Moore, and best supporting actor Oscar nominee Alan Arkin.
