A Do or Don't? Talking to Your Partner on Facebook

It's odd to see a couple having a conversation that would be private in any other circumstance on the very public Facebook wall. It can be amusing, and is usually meant to be a joke, but it can also be uncomfortable to read. Even it's funny or cute, there's a passive aggressiveness that almost lurks just beneath the screen.

Do you and your partner talk freely on Facebook, or do you have your own privacy policy?

I'm with Zabrow. No need to show love, or that kinda stuff, but i like to comment pictures, show vidéos, and i like to see his friends comment with us, and have fun, which doesn't happend on msn.

My boyfriend doesn't really use his facebook account. He keeps it around so that he's locatable but he never logs in & never talks to anybody on it. If he made a status update (the last one was over 2 years ago!) then I might comment on it's uniqueness. :PHe does use twitter though, though apart as sparingly! If he makes a twitter post then occasionally I'll comment on it but only people who follow both of us will be able to see it.

I usually comment on my bf's pics nothing ridiculous usually jokingly, also we have a lot of the same friends so we may debate on someones status or something, but nothing cutesy, we keep that stuff very private.

I think some people do it just so others will read it. It's an insecure thing.........It just seems like desperate attention seeking.

They should keep it for them selves especially if its a personal stuff. I mean, you should know if its ok to be broadcast or not. If yes, then be prepare to see different kind of comments under it. Some are help full but some would be harsh. Personal and senseless stuff are both shouldn't be posted. In between of that is fine.

My bf doesn't have facebook. But when I got on facebook today the top of my news feed was a friend confessing their undying love for a girlfriend. I just found it a little over the top and pointless. Although it did remind me how much he used to do it with past girlfriends, and I'm so glad it had stopped for awhile.

I have a very much to each their own attitude about this. Do what you want, no matter what others think as long as you aren't harming anything. I think most people post on their so's facebook like people used to leave notes. Everything is electronic now. That being said, I do find the proclamations of love really ridiculous. Espeically when they change it to a new gushy way to say it each day, lol. It usually makes me laugh, or roll my eyes. Kind of like the absurd "kissy wissy" comments people leave. haha

If my husband's debating or discussing an issue, I'll state my stance on it. Or, it's a business matter and he wrote something for his partners, I'll respond if it's good news to show my support. Other than that, love proclamations stay home and are direct.

my boyfriend & i post things we found on the internet on each others' walls, but we don't do the public proclamations of love. when other couples do that it doesn't bother me, though. different couples have different ways of communicating & it doesn't effect me at all.

No, and I think it's really weird. Maybe not the example Tres gave, because I think it's fine to comment on each other's status updates, but I think it's weird when couples communicate via facebook wall posts the way most other people use phones, e-mail or texts. I'm friends with a co-worker on facebook, and he and his girlfriend are pretty much the only people who write on each other's facebook walls. And they live together! They write things like "what time are you coming home tonight?" on a daily basis, along with other, more personal "I love you soooo much" type posts. It's really perplexing to me.

I do a little bit when we are apart. I might comment on a picture or send him a tiny message. I'm more of an email type of person. That way I can freely express everything that I want to tell him. I would never post anything super personal on facebook. I use it for light topics.

Also hate the proclamations of love. Plus I think it's especially weird for people who live together to talk over facebook.

We do comment on each other's statuses and pictures and stuff. For everything else, we have phones.I really hate those proclamations of love on fb. It's just stupid and sounds desperate. I really don't need to proof to anyone that we love each other...Actualy, he did write me a love letter as a status once, but it ws sarcastic because he was sick of all his friends doing it ;)

My boyfriend doesn't really use his, but I still write on his wall and stuff. I have military friends that primarily use it to talk to their significant other, and I have no problem with it. Plus I think if you are happy in your current relationship then you won't mind what others say to their significant other.

My husband and I interact on Facebook because we have most of the same friends. We don't spend much time posting on eachother's walls or statuses, but we often both comment on the same post on someone else's wall.

I'll draw my bf graffiti or post a funny pic on his wall, mainly because his cell doesn't accept pics from my bb. If I actually need to say anything I'll text or call. I agree with skigurl about the showiness aspect... I prefer to keep our conversations private, but his ex is always putting cryptic little phrases and in-jokes on his wall. It sometimes seems like she's trying to bug me or wants other people to think they're still an item, stupid stuff like " had a great time this weekend ; ) " ... Maybe I'm just oversensitive but since they text all the time and hang out once in a while so I don't see any other reason to say things publicly.
