Far away from New York City's frigid Hudson River, US Airways pilot Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger received a warm welcome from his small-town in Northern California. This weekend's celebration included a marching band, patriotic music, and a plethora of American flags.
While the pilot, who managed to land a bird-struck jet in the Hudson River without any casualties, didn't say much, local politicians including the mayor and US representative shared the spotlight to deliver speeches of praise. As for Sully, he kept a modest tone saying:
It was circumstances that put this experienced crew (in charge) of that plane on that particular day. We were simply doing the jobs we were trained to do.
Do you want to hear more from Sully?

I almost feel sorry for the guy. He seems like a gracious, modest fellow who was just doing his job and in the process he saved many, many lives. In all the articles I've read, it seems like he has had his 15 minutes in the spotlight and really didn't even want that.
1"local politicians including the mayor and US representative shared the spotlight to deliver speeches of praise"
There's nothing politicians love more than an actual hero they can latch onto.
2So true Mich
3I wonder how long before someone digs up something scandalous in his life and ruins him and his family. I'm afraid it's only a matter of time.
Personally, I don't want to hear more from him because I don't think HE wants us to hear more from him. He seems like a man that was just doing his job, and doesn't really want to be in the limelight for too much longer.
4I think what this pilot did was completely amazing. The fact that everyone survived, no one was seriously injured... Amazing and he DEFINITELY deserves recognition for that.
However, is he really a "hero"? He was doing what he was trained to do. It's a tough one. Of course, the FDNY guys ARE heroes. And how can you really differentiate. Oh geez, I'll just stop typing now.
5I predict movie made for tv.
6He deserves it, making some money off it.
Yeah yeah, he was just doing his job. But seems like a lot of people are doing their jobs in a lousy manner.
