Headline: Clinton Motorcade Escort Crashes in Dallas

A motorcycle police officer was killed in a crash in Dallas accompanying Hillary Clinton's motorcade to a rally in Oak Cliff. The police officer was thrown 30 feet from her bike.

The crashed occurred at 9:20 a.m. local time. No details are known yet as to the identity of the officer. A tragic event, and the words "motorcade" and "Dallas" uttered in the same sentence certainly evoke powerful and tragic connotations of their own.

She did not "just go on to the event." She was notified of what occured in the rear of her motorcade, and at the closing of the rally in Oak Cliff, she was informed that the officer had indeed passed away. She had another rally scheduled in Fort Worth, so they drove over to that location to explain to the crowd what had happened, and that the rally was being cancelled. Immediately after leaving the location of the rally in Fort Worth, she went to the hospital that the officer was taken to. She talked and expressed her condolences with the wife and family of the officer.

It is sad. How did it happen? And to brookrene what the heck was Hilary supposed to do - stand and gawk? Although she's a candidate and a senator she is still a Former First Lady - who has her own Secret Service Detail. Whenever they see something unexpected happen they're instructions are to NOT stop. Now that all the potentials are in place all the others now have SSD as well- and the same thing would have occurred. If her Secret Service Detail had allowed her to dictate what happened in the situation and she said "STOP! I want to get out and see what happened." They all would have either been demoted or fired. There job is to protect this particular First Lady until she dies. i would hazard to guess that she didn't know exactly what happened or her Detail spirited her away as they are required to do. BTW Bill and Hilary are the last presidential couple and family to get Secret Service Detail for Life. Congress ended the Protection For Life provision when Clinton was President and it took effect during George's first term. Unfortunately, GWB and Laura will only have protection for 10 years after his term ends. http://www.secretservice.gov/faq.shtml#faq9 The reason congress gave for making this change was that the Former Presidents were living longer, their wealthy enough to pay for their own security and it was costing taxpayers too much money.
