Porn Addicts Not Welcome at Christian Sex Shop

Sex shop Christian Love Toys is, of course, for marital bliss only, but what if a married couple finds its bliss is porn? Then they're politely, if judgmentally, asked to leave. Maybe try secular sex stores, which "sell a plethora of pornographic and inappropriate products. Inappropriate like anal beads marketed as "feather ticklers"? Nope. Those are allowed.

In a section labeled "Porn Addicts," it tells users "Pornography isolates you from the world, friends, family, God, and plunges you in a gluttonous fantasy world. It adversely affects ALL of your relationships." It recommends users seek redemption at the XXX Church, a site that aims to end porn and sex addictions by "purifying" the mind, much like the Dirty Girls Ministries we talked about yesterday.

I don't know what I was expecting! As the Guardian points out, Christian sex shops are a step in the right direction. But doesn't adding judgment to a place that's supposed to be a comfortable place to shop only undermine it?

Okk. I may be veering into really controversial territory here and this is an old post but I can not ignore this company's reps responses to the comments. First, I stand by my original comments regarding the company's motives being ridiculous and monetary. They are a business. They are targeting a demographic that they believe is not being catered to for the sole purpose of making a profit. I find it interesting that this employee's comments single out condemning Christians but insinuates that there are certain kinds of sexual acts that have no place in a Christian relationship. Deeming if what two wedded Christian people enjoy doing within the confines of there relationship is appropriate is between them and their God. There are many Christians who would consider the entire idea of this company offensive. Not because they are sexually repressed or ashamed but because their personal belief is that God would not lead anyone to use items of this nature in a relationship. Personally I think that pretty much all of the views here are understandable. If you are a Christian then that simplifies this whole matter. You can do whatever you feel God would have you do and let Him take care of people who aren't. In my experience people who have a genuine relationship with God don't spend a whole lot of time worrying about other people's opinions once they believe He's OK with whatever they might be doing.

I don't know much about Christianlovetoys.com. However, sites like ThePureBed.com, Christiannymphos.org and others are looking to expose married couples to the prospects of what sex can be in their marriage if not for the myths and misinformation that is cultural as well as religious in origin. You can no more fault them for marketing to their niche markets than you can a site that caters exclusively to the BDSM or any other unique community. As for the commercialization of Christ, the point is well made. However, I think it is far too easy to caricature Christianity rather than understand the benefit of what is happening in their ranks to promote a healthier perspective of sex. In fact, those who dismiss these sites out of hand are guilty of the very judgemental attitude of which they accuse Christians. My $.02...

I actually like the idea of walking in a shop, with out naked, scandalously clad bodies in positions that should only been seen by you and your mate in a shop. I think that sex can be promoted with out seeing images of lusty Lucy and dirty Derek on them. sex is an AWESOME act that should be left to the privacy of two persons, no visual instruction manual need.

Hello, I work for Christian Love Toys and ran across your post and thought I might offer some quick replies. We are serving very niche market of Christians that profess to believing in Jesus as the resurrected and sacrificed Savior of humanity that loves us all eternally and individually . We are also trying to specially serve married couples by providing a place for them to shop for toys with a careful selection and no pornographic imagery. We definitely try and use the Bible as our foundation for company, message, decision making, and product selection. Our spiritual world view says some of these things are simply unacceptable... and it is very difficult crafting and communicating that message in a politely loving and accepting way. As Christians, we are also called to hold other Christians accountable and walk with them in the right direction. We try to serve Christan married couples by promoting "Site Guidelines for Christian Married Couples and Sex Toys", which were established based on our understanding of what the Bible has to say about love, romance, marriage, sex, etc. Regarding our message about pornography... All addictions are bad, porn, sex, food, work , alcohol, because they separate us from Christ. Based on your feedback, I am going to talk to our Marketing Manager about modifying the message on the site to include that information. We definitely believe that pornography does not have a place in a Christian marriage, and are trying to encourage people in the "right" direction on this. We all have struggles. We are not those lunatics on sidewalks holding signs and yelling damnation ... but if a Christian struggles with pornography, they should be very careful about viewing any content on the topic of sex, so they can better love and prioritize their relationship with God and their spouse. Regarding anal beads... We do not promote the use of anal products between married man and woman, and I am not sure how the product you referenced in your post made it into our store. We have removed it for purchase. "Christianity and sex shop do not go together"... We believe God uniquely, carefully, and specially created man, woman, marriage, and sex (the body parts fit fairly well together). We also believe most products sold at most "sex shops" should not be included in the Christian marriage bed. However, there are a small selection of toys that we believe married couples can use while enjoying physical intimacy with each other. Our store may not be for everyone, both Christian and non-Christian... and we understand and accept that. "There is a "Christian" version of almost everything for sale. It doesn't make you any more pious to shop in places who market only to christians. "... So you know, we are definitely not trying to act as if the plastic and liquids that make up our products are magical or especially "holy." We have included messaging on our home page related to this: "Christian Sex Toys??! - Our sex toys & novelties are not especially "Christian". These are normal marital aids, carefully selected for a safe married Christian shopping experience." We believe Jesus Christ is the only righteous and good person. Christians are the worst part of Christianity. Many Christians are outright foxes that do not really believe in Christ and use it as a means of manipulation, condescension, and control. They will be judged. Other Christians earnestly desire to love and serve Jesus, love and serve friends / family, and serve love strangers, love reading the Bible, love praying, love Church, love sharing the message of Christ's love with the world... but even they make mistakes and are not perfect... and that will be true for as long as we live. I own my own Passion Parties business and market to Christian couples. Sex is a major issue in all romantic relationships. Since God wants couples to stay married it is important that their sexual life be addressed. I provide products and consultations (in the privacy of their homes) without judgment. In a way, I'm really glad to see that this kind of store exists. I can understand why they may leave out the film, but I'm a little perplexed by the beads. I'm not sure how that kind of play between couples is hurting anyone. But as someone posted above it is the buyer's choice to shop there and you can always look elsewhere to get other things you're interested in.

You don't have to believe in Christianity or God, as we have the free will to do whatever we want. However, I find this statement judgmental and ignorant. If you knew what Christianity was or if you knew any real Christians, you would know why anyone becomes one. The problem is that most people in this country believe they are Christians or call themselves that because they think it makes them a "good person" or something. That is a completely wrong belief and anyone who reads the Bible would know how Christian should behave. I can assure you that a real Christian doesn't waste time thinking about sexual insecurities.

I wouldn't say 'step in the right direction' at all. I'm pretty sure humans were doin' it just fine millenia BEFORE religion. I don't think people need a religiously sanctioned establishment (if its even) ALLOWING couples to express their sexuality. Screw that.But hey, if you're deluded enough to literally buy into that kind of pretend unicorn fantasy world of clean Christian sex (an anal bead by any other name....), then oh well. And since when does liking porn make you a sex addict?

I guess it does help, Jmartens. I should add to this that I a leftist Christian, and I waited to have sex with my husband till we were engaged.I totally agree with bohokitty. Having been in many Christian book stores, I think a lot of it is selling junk with Jesus - certainly taking the Lord's name in vain.I think it's true that some Christians are very sexual in their marriage - but lets have an honest conversation, shall we? We all know that many Christians are attracted to the religion because of sexual insecurities.

This is ridiculous imo, aside from the porn part it just seems like a marketing ploy. There is a "Christian" version of almost everything for sale. It doesn't make you any more pious to shop in places who market only to christians. It seems contradictory to the "be in the world but not of it" evangelism mantra of the church to create a separate establishment because the ones that exist sell something you object to. I am curious to know exactly what kind of merchandise this shop will stock though. I've seen "I Love Jesus" stamped on everything from coffee mugs to mudflaps. The latter is really disrespectful in my opinion as I can't imagine any religion being OK with their god's name being stamped on mudflaps. Since apparently there are church goers who don't consider that disrespectful to their God does that mean we can anticipate sex toys emblazoned with Bible verses from a "Christian" Sex Shop. Something about this leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

If someone goes to this site and they can't find what they want, like porn, they can simply look elsewhere. I would never get mad at a store for not carrying the style or brand of shoe I want to buy...I'd look somewhere else. As for it Christianity and sex shops not going together I have to disagree. Many very conservative Christians I know are VERY sexual within their marriage and would be happy to try toys in the bedroom. However, Christianity teaches that sex is for a husband/wife so looking at porn (sex showing someone other than the husband/wife) would be considered wrong....lusting after another person you are not married to. So I can see why they do not sell porn. It is not in line with their beliefs.
