My boss never gives me any feedback. She is barely around and when she is in the office, everyone is pulling at her for different things. I don't want to sound needy, but I'd like to know how she feels about the work I'm doing. If I have no relationship with her, then I can't measure my progress. Come review time, I'd like to do well. How can I handle this? Concerned About Her Career Carla
Dear Concerned About Her Career Carla
Try and talk to your boss in person or via e-mail to set up a specific time to meet within two weeks. Let her know that your intention is to just get some feedback about how you're doing and to also ask some questions about your job and your responsibilities. Offer to work around her schedule even if it means coming in early or leaving later. Remind her about your upcoming meeting when it gets a little closer. If she cancels, remain firm about getting a new date and time. You might want to have some goals in mind that you'd like to be measured by in case she comes unprepared -sometimes you have to manage your boss to get things done.
