Yay or Nay? Campaign-Kids' Blogs?

Candidates with tech-savvy offspring are featuring their kids' blogs as a part of their campaign.
Cate Edwards and Meghan McCain both pen blogs about their experiences on the campaign trail. Are these blogs an asset to the process?

I don't want to hear about how McCain's daughter is a self-indulgent rag-reading, Starbucks-chugging, superficial brat. I'd lose all respect for McCain. If they were like Chelsea, or even Jenna Bush, maybe. I saw Jenna on Ellen the other day and she seemed like a fantastic person.

might be gimmicky, but kids still do have ideas they want to promote so let's let them talk too!

thats kinda insulting, "young people dont understand politics, so let me bring in my hip kids to show you whats up" blah, stick the facts please.

i think it is a good idea and will definitely appeal to a younger crowd and bring attention to the importance of the presidency, the campaign and voting. Though I do question the makeup tips...not sure that is applicable but Cate Edwards blog was much harder to read with just the dry campaign details. it would be interesting to see them give their own opinions and feelings about their father's running for president.

I like the idea, but I think you can be pretty sure their daddies vet what they're writing pretty harshly, so it's never going to be what they *really* really think.

It is an interesting concept to have someone younger write their perspective, but it is far too gimmicky since they are so close to the candidates. McCain's picture looks like a typical myspace pic.

Just don't twist the fact that the kids are NOT the ones running for office. i kinda thinks it's gimmick-y too. Come on, if they like Meghan surely if the voters are over 18, she's got some influence to draw them in! I'm just sayin'...

I agree with juliegal that it at least brings attention to the candidates in a different way. Hopefully it will reach kids who are just getting the opportunity to vote that are more blog-savvy.

I don't seen anything wrong with the candidates' kids blogging about their parents' campaign. But it bugs me that the parents use it as part of the campaign. Let the kids have their blogs and record their perspective without making them into little PR machines.

Wo! Come on! Everybody is blogging, but a candidate? Is not serious, people want to know another things. You can saw pictures of candidates on the web with theirs family, but you don't want to know how is constituted the family and what they do or not! Too much.

I think it's gimmicky.. but in a fun way. And it does give a different perspective on the candidates. (Although it's their children - so not an unbiased perspective.)

I wouldn't call the candidates children brats. Many of them are extremely hard working and dedicated. That said, I don't necessarily think these blogs are a good idea. If the children have worthwhile opinions then yeah, I'll read them. But make-up tips from McCain's daughter? No thanks.

i love it! meghan mccain seems funny. i like how heres is fun and stuff, like the picture of her holding a banana in the debate room and laughing. it's not like "here are pictures of my dad in the most boring way possible, vote for him." and she has good taste in music! it's nice to see that she's normal and fun! i couldn't read cate edward's blog though. it was so boring.... i dunno. meghan's is fun and you still get an idea of the politics, but you get pictures and stuff about her, so it's more hers than her dad's

It is a little gimmicky and, as with all things in politics, I'm sure there's a hidden agenda. Nevertheless, it's interesting to read about their lives on the campaign trail. Campaigning can be chaotic and dramatic. John Edwards had (has?) a twitter and I think it was a fun idea.

I wouldn't call it a gimmick, who isn't blogging these days? It doesn't seem that obscure that kids with time on their hands and information to spread would do so in a blog.

I didn't realize these guys were blogging. I think the idea is great! I also think we have to assume the blogs are closely and carefully edited, but they still offer a unique perspective.

Might be fun to get a different (and younger) perspective. Sometimes the kids get a little annoying, though. It depends.

It's an interesting perspective, but it does feel a little gimmicky sometimes - though I suppose I'm thinking more of Mitt Romney's sons than of either Cate Edwards or Meghan McCain.
