CA May Institute Tax Hikes on Take-Out and Personal Services Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that his administration is considering "tax hikes on personal services, some prepared foods, and other items" in an effort to close the budget gap. Personal services include things like personal training and attorney's fees, and the prepared foods could include items that economists deem unnecessary like mochaccinos and artisan goat cheese pizzas.

cine & UnDave: The Governator is still probably the most conservative elected official in Sacramento. nicachica: Believe me, there is no part of California you want to live in now, or anytime soon! An honest study on just the measurable costs of illegal immigrants would be absolutely shocking. There's a new report from the Eagle Forum finding that: "The bottom line, which you need to know for your own bottom line, is that U.S. taxpayers are giving more than $9,000 a year in cash or benefits to each immigrant, a third of whom are in the country illegally. That's $36,000 for each immigrant household of four." As for unmeasurable costs, what about the amount of education funding that is diverted to bilingual and compensatory education? What about the number of hospitals and emergency rooms that have closed due to the burden of uninsured patients? Prison overcrowding? Criminals living in the shadows, skipping back and forth across the border to evade capture? Uninsured (and unlicensed) motorists increasing our insurance rates?

I could save the Guv a ship load of money. All he has to do is round up all the illegal aliens and send them home. The money saved by not having to feed, house, clothe, and educated the illegals would balance California's budget. Who eats a goat cheeze pizza, anyway?

california is having such gigantic budget crisis that we are letting inmates out of jail. i say good for him for facing the fact that we cant have our cake and eat it too. our state is falling apart and we need money to fix it. period.

A tax is a tax is a tax. Whether it's on clothing, luxury items or a goat cheese pizza. If I lived in CA, I'd throw the taxed pizzas in the ocean and call it the San Francisco Pizza Party.
