Buckley Quits National Review After Endorsing Obama "Within hours of my endorsement appearing in The Daily Beast it became clear that National Review had a serious problem on its hands. So the next morning, I thought the only decent thing to do would be to offer to resign my column there. This offer was accepted — rather briskly! — by Rich Lowry, NR’s editor, and its publisher, the superb and able and fine Jack Fowler. I retain the fondest feelings for the magazine that my father founded, but I will admit to a certain sadness that an act of publishing a reasoned argument for the opposition should result in acrimony and disavowal."

I liked his line.. good thing mom and pops is dead or they would cut off my allowance. :) Then he feels he has to resign from the National Review for honestly speaking his mind.. which I believe is his job. or was his job..no?. :(

I just read his piece and it wasn't an overwelming "pro obama" piece. It was more an oberservation of his personal experinces with McCain and how he has changed, more a vote against McCain that pro Obama. The tone was not like some of the others it wasn't attacking McCain/Palin at one bit, I can't see how something like this would be recieved so poorly regardless of who Buckley identifies with Politically.

This is amazing - in his endorsement, Buckley wrote: "This campaign has changed John McCain. It has made him inauthentic. A once-first class temperament has become irascible and snarly; his positions change, and lack coherence; he makes unrealistic promises, such as balancing the federal budget ““by the end of my first term.”” Who, really, believes that? Then there was the self-dramatizing and feckless suspension of his campaign over the financial crisis. His ninth-inning attack ads are mean-spirited and pointless. And finally, not to belabor it, there was the Palin nomination. What on earth can he have been thinking?" "Obama has in him——I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy ““We are the people we have been waiting for”” silly rhetoric——the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for."

thats to bad for him, really sad that he cant voice his own opinion.

Wow this is sad that a fairly resonable, and intellegent writer can't put out an opnion piece during election season without feeling like her has let down his party. What's even more sad is that he is leaving something that his father built.
