Sunday Confessional: Boyfriend's Mom Googled Me

My boyfriend's mom googled me before even meeting me. Does that mean she's an overbearing mother?

I don't see anything wrong or rude about her googling you before meeting you, but I too, think it's weird that your boyfriend told you about it. Unless you have something you are ashamed of I wouldn't think twice about it in this day and age.

She Googled you. Did anything come up? Wow. Hand it to mom that she is up to date with the internet and to you that you are up to date as well. Maybe she's very outgoing and forward, and that's just her personality. Yours is too if you post yourself on the computer. Nothing wrong with people searching for information if you put it out there in my opinion. Its bad in some ways though as it replaces the first impression and you don't get a chance to change that with google.

My mom looked up my boyfriend on Facebook before she met him too. It might not be uncommon or weird or stalker-like, but I still think it's rude and I'd be embarrassed to let someone know my mom googled them for no good reason.

I dont think its weird to google people its just the same as googling blogs,gosip, and all the other crazy stuff people google... and i think maybe he told her like in a joke like hhaha did you know my mom googled you and he laughed i dont see anything weird her at all really... But thats just me

I guess I'm the only person who finds this creepy. I don't google people. I form my opinions on people by meeting them and asking questions to get to know them. How did people ever live without the internet? Blah. I'm sure there is just as much false information on the internet as there is true. Why bother? I would be creeped out by this as well and I would be twice as creeped out that my bf shared the fact that it happened.

I would think it weird if she DIDN'T Google you. What were you expecting? Check your calendar, girl: It's 2010, not 1910.

I don't think that's weird at all either. I'm sure you'll do the same if you ever have children and I'm sure you've probably done it yourself about random people when you're bored. I know I have!

I think it's a little bit of over protective and curious. I know for me I will probably always parent my son no matter what his age.

I don't think it's that weird. I mean, my parents have googled my ex before and even my current husband LOL!!!! And my parents are pretty cool, ok, they can be overbearing but they also let me make the decision in the end (and p.s. usually they didn't find anything with the googling thing).I didn't and never googled my hub's family and whoever, I just don't care that much with googling people, because does it even work? Or just lots of people with similar names popping up all over the place?

The weird thing is that he told you. I don't think that googleing you is weird or anything like that. Sometimes when I'm bored I Google people.

Googled you? That's nothing. My aunt has a cop friend and asks him to run my cousin's boyfriends. My family is pretty wild and most of us have spent a couple days in jail at least, so pretty much just to check for serious violence. I agree she was probably just curious.He told you though? That's weird. Why would he do that? I mean I'm sure he meant well but he's unintentionally planting seeds of doubt in your head. Honestly I would wonder more about his motives than his mom's.

Well, he had to have told her your entire name for her to even have a successful search. It's pretty normal for people to Google a name these days, albeit a little crazy. How did you find out? I think the etiquette is to at least NOT mention that you stalked a person and pretend you are learning information as you are meeting. Either way, if you want to have a successful relationship with a guy you've got to stay on the mom's good side. If she keeps spouting off facts about you or questioning you on stuff you have yet to mention to her in person then you should say something, otherwise just bear the awkwardness.

I honestly don't think thats means she is overbearing. It could have been much worse, like if she did a background check (rmonster in law)! Google not only shows flaws, but achievements. She was probably just curious about who you are. Don't worry.
