What does it say about the future of the human race when people would rather give up sex for a year than go without a cell phone for the same amount of time? I guess it means that technological communication is truly becoming more important than old-fashioned face-to-face interaction, even the type of face-to-face interaction that involves having sex. Come on, people! What good is a booty call without the booty? Is sexting really better than sex?
In a survey sponsored by none other than Samsung Mobile, 31 percent of adults in Boston said they would rather give up sex for a year than go without cell phones for a year. Apparently, relying on email, hard-to-find pay phones, and immobile landlines is much more burdensome than forgoing sex.
Considering that I know people who literally sleep with their BlackBerrys, I suppose I'm not really that shocked by these results.

I bet they'd rather give up cell phones than beer, however. Don't even get them started on what they'd rather give up than the Red Sox....limbs, I assume.

Molly! So true!
2Seriously??
Hmmm, to me, this may speak to the quality of sex they're having.
3Not surprised. I mean, I can imagine my life without sex because there have been some dry spells in the past, but I can't figure out what the heck I'd do without my cell phone.
4I personally love when my phone is forgot at home or even the time in between having a broken phone and buying a new one. I feel free. I can see why people would rather give up sex than their cell phone considering sex isn't as common as texting or chit chatting on the cell.
5as someone in a long distance relationship who goes through many, many long dry spells i can understand this lol. but I forgot my cell phone in my car the other week and I seriously felt naked all day
6It's an unfair study. I live in Boston, and it's a college town. We have a 4 colleges within a square mile radius of where I live. A cell phone is not a luxury for someone my age, it's how you communicate. I haven't owned a land line since I lived with my parents.
It's not fun to consider giving it up for sex, but I mean - I use my iPhone every day. I have sex a few days a week. It's just prioritizing.
7i WISH i could get rid of my cell phone! I feel so free when its battery dies or i forget it somewhere. And if I gave up my phone, would that mean I would get sex every day as a replacement?
8I'm not surprised by these numbers, like others I'm lost without my cell and if I do forget it and my outing isn't just a quick trip I'll turn around and go back to get it.
9As a married man with an asexual wife (it didn't use to be that way), I can assure you that no sex for a year is WAY MORE DIFFICULT to handle than no cell phone. Trust me, it's happened more than once. I never had a cell phone until a couple of years ago; then I received one as a gift. It's convenient and all, but I lived without one before, and I can live without one again. But life is far more difficult without intimacy than it is without a cell phone. If you really need a phone at some point, you can always borrow someone else's; but you can't just borrow someone other than your wife when you need intimacy and she's not interested. There's just plain something wrong with people who really honestly feel otherwise. It's not natural.
10Whoa.. yeah I live in boston for 9 years (went there to study)people really depend on their phones but really its not hard to find a phone there and its a walking city so its not like you might go with out any type of communication for a long time (like here in illinois where i live now).
Kevin, i hope things get better for you two.
11Kevin..im so sorry. there's got to be a reason why your wife feels that way (could be totally unrelated to you)..gotta talk to her and try to resolve this. how frustrating
12I'd love to give up the phone - I feel I never have privacy since people can always get ahold of me. Besides sex is way more fun - I hate talking on the phone. As long as I have email, I don't need a phone.
13spacekatgal, I didn't know you live in Boston! So do I! I think this survey is hysterical. I don't know if I could go without sex for a year, but I definitely couldn't go without my cell phone for that long! I even take it when I bring the trash downstairs. (Not that I can't separate from it for even five minutes, but it's in case I fell or was attacked or something and needed to call for help.) If you don't want to be bothered by lots of calls, just don't answer the phone when you're not in the mood to talk. SaucySassy, it is very hard to find a phone in Boston. There aren't really free-standing pay phones. I think I remember seeing one and being shocked by even seeing that!
