Today in weird interviews, Jenna Bush Hager chatted with Bill Clinton on the Today show, where she is now a correspondent. While they mostly talked about his work in Haiti, the obligatory personal jabber near the end, when Jenna asked about Chelsea's wedding, caught my attention.

I thought Bill was going to cry, and then he quoted George W. Bush, saying: "You know it [seeing your child marry] proves you've done what you were supposed to do, but it doesn't make it entirely easy." Now, I might expect that sentiment from W., but Bill? If a child marrying symbolizes a parenting job well done, then what about a child not marrying?

I second everything Jeraldan said in her post! I don't think it's an offensive "married kids are better than unmarried ones" comment at all. Every girl who has a loving dad out there can probably related to her father getting all teary-eyed but proud over his daughter's wedding. From what I observe, it's just a "dad" thing. It's cute. All I take it to mean is that he's raised her to a point where now she's on her own, starting her own family, and he's proud of that. What parent wouldn't be? It doesn't make other achievements any less worthy, just marriage is the one where you've set out to start your own family and will (probably) begin the parenting-family cycle for yourself. I'm not a Clinton fan at all, but I think any dad getting sweet over his daughter is endearing.

I don't think it's supposed to be an insult to women who don't marry. I think it just means that as a parent, they've succeeded in raising a child to the point where the child is an adult and able to make the decision to marry. That's how I read it, anyway.

Wait--you'd expect that from W but not Bill?? lol...isn't Bill the same guy that couldn't define "is" in regards to his sexual relationship with Lewinsky??? hahaha...wow. Funny one, Tres. And the interview wasn't that weird. The elder Bush and Clinton are friends, and speak on the phone with some regularity. W. and Bill have been working together on charities as well.

marriage just symbolizes a new chapter in the child's life, i'm sure bill was proud of her before she decided to get married, but marriage does changes things.
