Beyonce and Michelle Obama's Friendship

Today's a big day for two of our country's most famous African-American women: birthday girl Beyoncé, who turns 31 today, and Michelle Obama, who will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention tonight. And they share more than a day of celebration, as the two have a history of sweet moments.

"I'm so proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to," superstar Beyoncé read in an ad for the Obama campaign back in July. It's an ode to Michelle Obama, whom Beyoncé calls "the ultimate example of a strong African-American woman." Beyoncé originally wrote the words in a letter she posted on her Tumblr. That first posting got some love back from Michelle, who responded on Twitter by saying, "Thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to."

Like many supporters of President Obama, Beyoncé believes that Michelle is an important asset to the president. If you elect him, you get his strong wife, who, as Beyoncé says, is doing a lot for women in America and around the world. Like Barack and Michelle, Beyoncé and Michelle have been a part of their own dream team together, too. They paired up for the first lady's Let's Move initiative, for which Beyoncé released a song and music video, "Move Your Body." The Grammy winner also showed up at a Harlem school as part of the Let's Move initiative last year to dance along with students who learned the "Move Your Body" routine in an effort to get fit. Pictured above, it has to be one of my favorite Beyoncé moments ever.

While Beyoncé is obviously gushing over Michelle in this new ad, the first lady isn't afraid to publicly show her admiration for the singer, who happened to perform "At Last" at the Obama inauguration in 2009. Michelle recently told a People reporter that if she could be someone else, she'd be Beyoncé. Michelle said, "Gosh, if I had some gift, I'd be Beyoncé. I'd be some great singer."
