"Gays love old ladies," Betty White tells Parade magazine.

In fact, she believes her status as gay icon began with the Golden Girls in the mid '80s, which had a huge gay following. Understandable in hindsight, but I never knew! Now I'm wondering if gay men are responsible for moving it toward cult status over the last decade?

Whatever it is, Betty says thank you for being a friend with her own celebrity endorsement of gay marriage.

"I don't care who anybody sleeps with. If a couple has been together all that time — and there are gay relationships that are more solid than some heterosexual ones — I think it's fine if they want to get married. I don't know how people can get so anti-something. Mind your own business, take care of your affairs, and don't worry about other people so much."

How can anyone disagree with an 88-year-old gay — and straight — icon?
