Behold, the Most Accurate Map of the United States — Ever

In the grand tradition of the Starbucks vs. Walmart state (yep, I'm proclaiming "grand traditions" now — it's a blessing and a curse) GraphJam has this amusing-because-it's-trueish map of how Californians perceive the rest of the country.

Given the left-coast's Berkelian flair and South Park enabled reputation for being quite pleased with itself, the map is pretty amusing. I love that North of the state line is "Canada" and "coffee" (though not so much anymore, eh?)

We'll see who's laughing, Mr. 55-electoral-vote CA, when those "Religious Nutballs" are actually deciding the election...

Just like she left out a lot of midwestern things. I don't really think her map was meant to be all-inclusive. It would have had to have been about 100 times as large!

yesteryear Why did you put HomeDepot over there? It got it's start in Atlanta and most of it's stores are in the south.

And final note: I LOVED Syako's map, I laughed so hard..politically correct or not I don't care, it was funny as hell. And yes, I have to agree also, Louisiana is a world unto itself. I love that place, its mental (in a good way).

No, no, no Whole Foods is not a Southern California thing, it is an Austin, Texas thing. Central Markets (a San Antonio thing) are also very nice. Regarding this post and its comments: I don't think generalizations are usually funny. I think generalization are more lazy and cliche, than creative or funny. Also, people tend to just parrot them and I find it annoying. /shrugs

No, no, no Whole Foods is not a Southern California thing, it is an Austin, Texas thing. Oh sorry I also had to add... * California also has the best weather. But it DOES rain here, contrary to public belief. And not everyone lives next door to movie stars. Southern California is way different from Northern California. Oh, and not everyone in SF is gay either... * There are so many Sonic commercials in the Bay Area even though the closest Sonic is in the Central Valley, over an hour away. I always try to stop by one in Tracy or Modesto. * I have never stepped foot in a Whole Foods even though I have seen a few of them. Once again, I think that's more of a Southern California thing. * Cracker Barrel pancakes are the best! We ate at one of the restaurants in Virginia and my grandma sends us the pancake mix sometimes.

But I have to admit i love Seattle and Las Vegas, and I would love to go to New York someday! Btw, I usually think of Disney World first when I think of Florida, then I think of alligators & swamps, then humidity, then old people.

I think that map is actually pretty accurate. I'm a proud Californian, but I think most of us think our state is the best. But we do have almost everything you could possibly need...beach, mountains, hills, agricultural farmland, desert, forests, city life, etc. I love it here1 I have been to several other states and none of them can compare to CA (sorry!). But we do know where Las Vegas is...it's only a 1 hour plane ride from the SF Bay Area.

THIS is how Florida should be divided: Upstate- Drunken college kids and red necks, central Florida (woot!)- tourists and the awesome people who have to put up with them, and south Florida- old people.

I enjoyed the map shown on SNL after the 2004 elections, showing California and some of the Northeast and Canada in blue as "The United States of Canada" and the rest in red as "Dumbf*ckistan."
