Decorate Dear Baby's Room With Bambi

It's a return to the forest this season!

It's a return to the forest this season! To celebrate the anniversary release of Walt Disney's Bambi (June 14, 1942) we're creating a cute deer-themed nursery. "Willow" by Kids Line, "Enchanted Forest" by Lambs and Ivy, and "Nursery Woods" by Amenity are a few collections that feature everything from deer-decorated bedding, rugs, paintings, and diaper stackers. Kids Line and Amenity have the added bonus of using 100 percent organic cotton in their products. Welcome your new baby home in a pastoral and soothing deer-themed nursery.

CasaSugar Community member Anitanirma recently posted this Scrumptious Lime Ornate Frame ($33) in the Su Casa group. While I am quite keen on the sprightly picture holder, I'm even more in love with this photo's staging. That adorable little Bambi had me sold at first sight. With the antler trend still going strong, I think we've forgotten how elegant the slender mammals are. So to celebrate our furry friends, I thought I'd round up some products featuring fabulous deer motifs — no taxidermy Bambi busts or horned light fixtures here!

Stella McCartney Makes Bambi Her Fall Muse

Stella McCartney's Fall '09 ad campaign is like a scene out of a Disney cartoon.

Stella McCartney's Fall '09 ad campaign is like a scene out of a Disney cartoon. That's because, along with model Sigrid Agren, it features the adorable Bambi. "We wanted to have some fun. The clothes in the campaign are looking quite fierce, and we wanted to contrast them with the innocence of Bambi," the designer said. The ad, which debuts in magazines in September, was shot in a forest in Worcestershire; Bambi and gang were added later in the studio. So why Bambi? "I'm a huge Bambi fan, and the film reminds me of my mum." Aw. What do you think of Stella's Fall ad?

Buzz In: Which Animated Movies Made You Cry?

As many of you likely discovered over the weekend, Pixar's new blockbuster Up is a total tearjerker.

As many of you likely discovered over the weekend, Pixar's new blockbuster Up is a total tearjerker. Who would have thought a funny-looking movie about a grumpy old man, talking dogs, and an inquisitive little kid could make me bawl like a baby?!

I was wondering how little kids are handling some of the sad scenes in Up, and then I remembered that animated movies have been making kids (including me) cry for years now. An obvious example is Bambi with — spoiler alert! Ha ha — the mom dying and all. Personally, I will never ever forgive forget the brutal emotional experience of watching Mufasa plummet to his death as his little baby cub looks on in The Lion King. Seriously, when it comes to this scene, I still cannot keep the tears back.

Smokestacks Meet Thumper: Disney and the Environment

Chim chiminey, Chim chiminey, Chim chim cher-oo!

Chim chiminey, Chim chiminey, Chim chim cher-oo! Disney may have made the life of a chimney sweep seem like dancing on the rooftops, but some decades later we've learned smudgy, sooty coal is a filthy form of energy. Which is why the news that much of Europe may be returning to their old coal ways requires a huge spoonful of sugar.

Italy is poised to increase its reliance on coal to 33 percent from 14 percent over the next five years. Total power generated from coal will billow to 50 percent. Don't just blame the Italians, countries all over Europe are expected to put into operation about 50 coal-fired plants over the next five years — plants and gunk that we will be able to enjoy for the next five decades. Germany in particular has 60 new coal-fired power stations planned. To see how Disney fits into the modern eco-picture, read more
