Ahead of Season 2, Let's Review 10 Dating Dos and Don'ts From Bachelor in Paradise

The latest Bachelor spinoff, Bachelor in Paradise, has its second season premiere Aug. 2, and we can only hope it will be as ridiculously amazing and terrible as the first season. Tears, drama, dates, ocean makeouts, Chris Harrison in casual beachwear, a discussion with a raccoon, name-calling, crazy cleavage, made-up words — and that was just the premiere. From this new season's teaser, I don't think we will be disappointed.

What I really appreciate about the show is how it's shameless in a way that even The Bachelor and The Bachelorette can't (or won't) be. Plus, you may be surprised by the dating lessons you can learn from it. (Percentages, not so much.) Ahead of the new season, let's look back at the 10 dating dos and don'ts we learned from the first Bachelor in Paradise premiere.

01
Do show off your cleavage if you want to be noticed.
ABC

Do show off your cleavage if you want to be noticed.

Lacy won the premiere with her revealing pink bikini and go-get-him attitude. Nobody could remember which season she was from — she was kicked off in the first episode of Juan Pablo's season — but nobody cared. They were too distracted by her assets. Will you be taken seriously if you pull this kind of move? Probably not. But you score huge first-impression points.

02
Don't build up someone in your head before meeting them.
ABC

Don't build up someone in your head before meeting them.

Take heed: AshLee is one big DON'T on Bachelor in Paradise. Don't fall in love with someone after knowing them for less than 24 hours. Don't cry and get dramatic then walk away when that person is trying to resolve the situation. Don't assume your crush is a mind reader (poor, clueless Graham). And on the other side of it, don't let a stage-five clinger call dibs on you just to be nice (it'll only get worse).

03
Do find someone to vent your feelings to who's not the person you're dating.
ABC

Even if it's a raccoon. Also, choose hoes before bros and be the better person like Clare did when she gave up her date with Graham to keep the peace with AshLee. You go, Clare Coco.

04
Don't wear shoes you can't walk in to a first date.
ABC

Don't wear shoes you can't walk in to a first date.

Elise essentially crawled down those stairs. (It's a beach, take the damn shoes off.) Let this be a warning. Whether it's a wedding or a date, dress appropriately.

05
Do move on and explore your options.
ABC

Do move on and explore your options.

Even though Michelle Money had a thing in the past with Graham, she didn't stay in the safe zone and go to back him, she branched out and asked Marquel to go on a date with her. You get that fine, cookie-loving man, Michelle.

06
Don't date a guy who wears an attention-grabbing necklace.
ABC

Don't date a guy who wears an attention-grabbing necklace.

Hey, I know we're in "paradise," but why are there so many terrible necklaces? Same goes for "tighty oranges" (Marcus, we're talking to you). Chris Harrison's beach casual attire, however, is a definite do. Come to mama in those linen pantalones.

07
Do keep in mind that the ocean (or pool or hot tub) is where the magic happens.
ABC

Do keep in mind that the ocean (or pool or hot tub) is where the magic happens.

If there's anything we've learned from The Bachelor and its spinoffs, it's that water equals sex. Or at least makeout sessions. In the real world, there are some safety precautions to take — but still, there's just something about a hot tub that heats things up . . . literally and figuratively.

08
Don't use math on a date if it's not your strong suit. (I'm 80/40 on this.)
ABC

Don't use math on a date if it's not your strong suit. (I'm 80/40 on this.)

Lacy's use of percentages leaves much to be desired, but equally as cringe-worthy was when Clare made up a new word: "conversate." Really, this is just a life lesson on how to not sound dumb. But it also goes for dates.

09
Do take into account the wind velocity when choosing your date updo.
ABC

Or maybe just never do this with your hair. But Robert doesn't care. See previous point regarding cleavage.

10
Don't be catty and call someone names just because you're jealous.
ABC

Don't be catty and call someone names just because you're jealous.

Below the belt, AshLee. And just a teensy bit presumptuous. It's easy to jump to judge-y conclusions with other women (especially if they have a reputation), but give someone you've just met a chance before calling them ugly.
