Here's a list of people they did deem worthy.

Erma Bombeck wrote funny newspaper columns and books about being a housewife.
1L. Douglas Wilder was the first African-American Governor in the U.S. - apparently in Arizona, governor trumps president.
I agree with the statement. If he is truly destined to be a great then let him create his body of work, and be judged at that time.
2I sorry that you have such a low opinion of Erma Bombeck.
Makes sense...I like Obama as much as the next person, but he's been president, for what? 10 weeks. Some people need calm down a bit.
I also think honorary degrees to people with degrees and little affiliation with the school seems a bit strange, no matter who they are.
3If his "body of work is yet to come", then why invite him to speak at the university?
4Agree lil
5Barack Obama was the president of the Harvard Law Review, a constitutional law professor, civil rights attorney, community activist,a former State Senator, and former US Senator. He is a best selling author. Oh and happens to be the first Black President in a majority White nation. Yeah his "body of work" is slim.
6Its not about his color. or didnt we cover this?
7Whatever.
In other news, jeezus CG, we've moved past Bunnicula and straight to nightmare inducing Easter Bunny.
8"Its not about his color. or didnt we cover this? "
Is this comment directed towards me?
9Barry Goldwater was honored with much less behind is name...make you wonder.
10"Oh and happens to be the first Black President in a majority White nation" yes it was.
Star, I have an irrational fear of the easter bunny.
11I agree with the reason behind not letting him do it now. That and the fact that he has waaaay more important things to be doing now. I however have to agree Stephley about some of the other Honorary degree holders. Some don't compare, IMO.
12GKitty, Barry Goldwater has a lot of ties to the Phoenix metro area. He may have a lot less to his name, but he has a lot of influence (and schools and streets named after him, etc). I've only been to Phoenix twice since the election, but I don't remember there being a Barack Obama Elementary/High School, or any streets. I'll check it out when I'm there in May.
13Frankly, I think to not offer Obama an honorary degree, when they offer them to so many people who speak at their commencements, is pretty of disrespectful. But that's Arizona State for you, being surprised that they're being disrespectful would be like being surprised that Britney Spears did something that made her look like a hick.
CG, please tell me you aren't the little girl in the picture?
...though it would explain your fetish with strange pics
14I agree...except for the street stuff.
15I take issue with this and would repost lili's initial comment as my reason. Maybe ASU should get McCain?
16No tis not me.
the strangeness? comes from my love of the macabre. the creepier the better.
17Unbelievable. Without an ASU degree in inspirational speech, Obama probably won't be able to find work in this economy.

19I don't understand the outrage at all. Or the need for the story, but oh well.
20Anything is better than another gay marriage story at this point
21Well that explains a lot of the scary bunny pics CG. You were a cute little girl though!
"Anything is better than another gay marriage story at this point"
22Thank you.

CG I would really like to address your comment but after reading some of the conservative comments lately, I've decided it would be a waste of time.
25wow
26I've said that several time this week GS.
