— Androgynous model Andrej Pejic told reporters at Paris Fashion Week that he'd consider getting a sex change for the rare honor of a Victoria's Secret contract. Considering he's already walking in shows like Jean Paul Gaultier, he might not have to.

Not that I'm referring to transgendered people as drag queens... those were his words. I think he just meant he's not trying to *pretend* he's a girl.

Late comment... but I think Andrej was joking... he has a pretty deadpan sense of humor, and in another interview, he said that he is a man (or boy actually) and that he doesn't want to be a drag queen. He also said that he likes doing menswear just as well... it's just that the women's shows are more theatrical. :)

it's kind of funny that after all of that you call being transgender a "disorder." I know that's still the DSM classification but you might look into updating your terminology...

This is a joke. They dressed him up as a womn once for fun and then it turned into him walking shows as a woman. If he went through a sex change for a contract then he needs mental help. Bluesarahlou your picture is so hot. Just had to say that.

I've never heard of Andrej Pejic before this, but I have to say he's pretty amazing looking. But I wouldn't picture him doing Victoria's Secret modeling, he seems to have a much more high fashion, couture style.

A. Based on this statement, they would actually NOT qualify for having gender identity disorder - not qualify for it. A passing wish to be the other sex for financial gain is not the same thing as GID. B. I agree with your later statement, but you are putting forth an argument of being pro-discrimination. I understand where you're coming from, but unconscious or not - you're delineating transgender women from having the same rights as normal women, which is textbook heterosexism. I do not agree with your argument.

True, I don't know the ins and outs of this model's gender identity, but based on the comment "i would get a sex change" I assumed that this person has at least a fluid gender identity. And what on earth led you to believe that I thought that trans models are the typical experience of trans people? I would say that any type of model lives a pretty abnormal life compared with the masses....

A. This person is not transgendered. B. Once they get on hormones, they have the same struggles with weight normal women do. Because of the psychological damage of a transgendered youth, most have disastrous body image problems. The vast majority that I've personally known were overweight. I would urge you not to thing that transgender models are the norm. If normal women have body issues, you can only imagine how much worse their body issues are. I spent about two hours on the phone last night with a good friend whose transgender daughter committed suicide a year ago. This is very much on my mind today.

I really have mixed feelings about transgendered women serving as models for women's clothing. I feel like it just perpetuates unrealistic expectations, since people born male tend to be taller, have less body fat, zero cellulite and higher metabolisms. Of course, they look just like the biologically female models do anyways, so it's nothing new for fashion. But yeah, mixed feelings.
