There are many reasons to abstain from sex, be it to observe religious beliefs, recover from a sex addiction, fuel your creativity, or reassess your notions of sexuality.

But Brandy has another viable rationale for celibacy. She recently shared that she hasn't been serious with a guy in six years and that she hasn't had sex in years. She tells Life and Style, "I tend to abstain if I'm not in a relationship."

What do you think about holding off on taking it to the next level until you're in a committed relationship? Have you taken a celibacy break before?

I, also, wouldn't have sex with someone I wasn't in love with. Emotionally, I couldn't.

I wouldn't have sex with someone I didn't know but I don't abstain. Usually a guy friend who I've been crushing on.

Not on purpose. :p Right now, I'm not in a relationship. If the opportunity to have casual sex with someone I'd like to have sex with came up, I'd jump at it. Or on it. When I'm not in a relationship, I don't actively look for new sex partners, but I don't actively abstain, either.

I also would never have sex with someone I didn't love. In between relationships, I've relied on a healthy amount of "voting Republican."

I answered yes, only because that's all I've know so far. I went from a super-longterm relationship (where I was celebate for about 3 years), took a short break, then started another relationship. If this new relationship ends, I guess I'll have to see. But casual sex is something I have zero experience with, and I think would feel extremely weird hooking up with just 'some guy'.

For me sex is a huge power of release. Out of a relationship I'm choosy, but abstain? I don't think there are any benefits it that for me.I do make sure though that any lover knows the situation.
