- John Edwards is set to drop out of the presidential race this morning. He is likely to make the announcement official at a 1 p.m. EST appearance in New Orleans. With Edwards dropping out, Giuliani expected to, and decisive finishes by McCain and Romney in Florida last night, both parties are effectively down to two candidates each heading into Super Tuesday.
- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is going to formally apologize to the Aboriginal minority for past mistreatment when Parliament convenes next month. To show its importance, the apology is the first order of business. The Aboriginal population suffered following European settlement, and until 1969 were subject to the policy of removing Aboriginal children from their parents and giving them to white families or state institutions as a way to assimilate them into the white population. Jenny Macklin, the federal minister for indigenous affairs, said, “the apology will be made on behalf of the Australian government and does not attribute guilt to the current generation of Australian people.”
- The US House of Representatives approved the economic stimulus package in a 385 to 35 vote. Calling for $146 billion to prop up the flagging economy, the bill is headed for the Senate, where it's expected there will be calls for change to the bill, or a substitution of the Senate's own stimulus plan, which includes an extension of unemployment benefits.

6I heard this morning that it is suspected his dropping out will benefit Hillary since "the white vote will no longer be split."
...which I found somewhat offensive given that I'm a white female and would firmly place my vote for Obama if I intended to vote Democratic.
It will be interesting to see which way it really plays. Edwards had some decent ideas, but he never came across as being remotely sincere, and that's always bothered me. But, it was always a two-horse race.

8I hope Edwards endorses Obama. They seem so much more on the same page than Hilary. You could tell by the debates.
9didn't Edwards' wife say Hillary was joyless?? I think if he endorses anyone it will be Obama.
10It's sad about Edwards. I did like him, but he needed a stronger appeal. I hope he backs Obama as well.
11My money's on Hillary. He reminds me of Hillary. All fluff and no substance. He'll be leaving the 9th Ward and heading back to his mega-mansion in NC shortly.
