Okay ladies, I just found something that I have to share with you. Let me first say that as women, it's incredibly important to do everything we can to keep ourselves safe. Some women carry mace, others a cell phone, and some women I know are even learning Kung Fu. Here's another idea for self-defense: It's called FemDefence.
This “product" (which is presently just an idea) is a kind of protection for women against sexual assault. It's similar to a tampon in that the user inserts it into her vagina, but it has a sharp pin on one end, which has a penetrating effect on a perpetrator’s penis in the event of a rape. The construction is such that the pin cannot injure the woman wearing it.
Whoa. When I first saw it, I thought it was something you kept in your purse — not in you! What do you guys think? Would you put this inside yourself if it meant you'd be more safe, or do you think this product is going too far?

Wow that is crazy... I would rather just go and get my gun license....
1No way I'd put that in my body.
2Even if this managed to stop an actual rape, the assault has gone so far that you would be traumatised anyway.
3Whoever thought this up is out of their f'n mind! I would be scared to death to put that in me. What if you forgot about it.......whoops sorry honey, didn't mean to stab you with my FemDefense!
Plus, WHEN exactly would you think it appropriate to use it? On a daily basis? I mean, it's not like, Oh I think I might get raped today, better get in defense mode.
4Wow, that is pretty inteanse! At first i didn't notice the pin but I kept reading and I was like WTF!?
5And like Kristinh1012 said, when do you knwo when to use this!?
My face grimaced as I read the post......no way in hell would I use this. It's ridiculous!
6"Even if this managed to stop an actual rape, the assault has gone so far that you would be traumatised anyway."
Agreed. Plus, it essentially makes you live in fear of being raped. You'd need to have it inserted every single time you left the house, and that doesn't even take into account home invasions.
And now you'd have an already violent man on top of you with a punctured penis, and you don't think he's going to take that anger out on the closest punching bag?
TERRIBLE idea. That's a way to get a woman killed on top of being raped.
7Yea Greggie so true. He might get mad and kill you instead...
8This is insane!
9I think only a VERY paranoid woman would use this. I mean, it's not like someone can say, "Oh, you're going to rape me? Hold on, let me insert this weapon into my vagina."
For that to work, a woman would have to wear this every time she left the house. And that's just not reasonable.
Plus, YIKES. That doesn't look like it wouldn't hurt.
10This might have it's place during war time to protect women, but they would have to have some other form of defense (e.g. gun, mace, fist to the face) in order for this to be successful as a shock/distraction device. This may be a little excessive day to day in the modern somewhat peaceful world as it may cause more damage than good.
Just in case the threat of disease and him beating the crap out of the victim wasn't enough--let's ensure that disease is contracted by making him bleed all over the victim and really push him over the edge to not only beat her, but kill her.
11SEEMS LIKE ITS MORE OD A DANGER TO WOMEN THAN MEN :s
12WHOS GOING TO PUT THIS INSIDE THEM! REALLY!?!
this is like a throw back to some dark ages device...it doesnt make any sense to use it, okay your getting raped right, so this thing stabs the dude and now he is in you...bleeding...thats just great.
13i am actually scared of this...
14Yikes....how creepy!
15sfmastiffmom: "My face grimaced as I read the post......no way in hell would I use this. It's ridiculous!"
I agree - I had the same reaction. This is just too weird. No thanks, I think tradiational mace/pepper spray methods are better.
16No way. I will just go to my Dad's and get a gun.
17Wow...that seems a little extreme
Talk about being paranoid...
And when would you wear this? All the time? How do you know when you're going to be raped?
Seems like a whole lot of needless yeast infections to me lol
18Quote of the Day: "whoops sorry honey, didn't mean to stab you with my FemDefense!"
I would have to live in constant fear to use something like this.
And like the others have said, once he's penetrated you've pretty much been raped.
Now I can see how it would be convenient to have a secret hidden weapon handy to fend off an attacker. But needing to drop your pants and pull one out of your privates? Nah I don't think so.
19I couldn't wear this, and I think it's going a little too far. And if the rapist ended up with a punctured penis, I'd think he'd be pretty upset and would take it out on the victim, making the attack a lot worse or fatal. And who would stick that think inside of them anyway? I'd be scared of stabbing myself in the process of putting it in/ taking it out/ just wearing it!
20If you think you have enough forethought to see needing this then you are already putting yourself into a bad situation. Wouldn't it be easier(and healthier) to change your mind and NOT put yourself into that situation in the first place?
21Wouldn't this just make an attacker want to beat the heck out you, and probably give him a weapon to stab you with when he figures it out?!
22I bet it was a guy who invented this without realizing the fear it would cause us!! ugh! Never would I put that weapon on me!
23Actually I followed the link the post and checked out the website. It was kind of interesting actually. This girl conceptualized this when she was 14 years old. I'm not sure if it's actually a product or not. They called it an "ideallized product" to rase awareness or something. But then they refer to patents later. Anyway, check out the link if you want to think this idea sucks a little less.
24sweet jesus that's a scary product!! if you feel so strongly that you will be raped that you have to wear a tampon knife, then maybe you should rethink where you are going and with whom.
25This isn't the first device like this to be introduced. There is a controversial product called Rapex (google it) that was designed for use in South Africa so that rapists could be identified after the incident.
Interestingly, this can be intertwined with the old cultural myth dubbed vagina dentata (again, google it) which, among other stories, was used as a cautionary tale against having sex with unknown women.
Strange, I know. But just adding to the conversation here...
26i know- i thought about the vagina dentata too!
27it's like the victorian era all over again.
Really, this is just too far out there to be real.
I would live in more fear of piercing my insides whit this thing, than I would of being raped. I don't think it could be constructed as to not pierce the woman, at least not when you are trying to take it out.
No thank you.
28The disease aspect is a very good point - increasing the amount of fluids a rapist is exposing the victim to... not a good idea.
29What?? How about just staying out of situations where you could get raped? Geesh.
30Rape isn't something you can absolutely avoid, or the woman's fault for being in the "situation."
31Yipes. You would have to wear this thing ever day for the rest of your life! Plus, I agree with Greggie, the rape has really already occured so the trauma is still there.
32"Even if this managed to stop an actual rape, the assault has gone so far that you would be traumatized anyway."
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!
33I just showed this to my boyfriend. The look of horror was CLASSIC, and his hand went immediately over his crotch! No words were necessary.
34no way in hell would i put that in my vagina!
35WTF!?!!!
Are they serious?! I would NEVA but that in my body, eva, eva, eva, eva, eva. Why cant we all just carry a weapon?
36Two big concerns:
It'd draw blood from a penis that's already inside a vagina. That's a pretty good way to get HIV and other diseases. There are countries in Africa where both HIV and spousal rape are common. Having a sharp object that can draw blood inside your vagina would kind of defeat the purpose of defending yourself against rape and HIV.
If you're being assaulted, and this does manage to puncture the person doing the assaulting, you don't know what their reaction will be. What if it just pisses the guy off and leads to more violence?
37to Kristinh1012: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you're hilarious...i was thinking the same thing!!!! hahaha "defense mode"
38How about just staying out of situations where you could get raped?
Seriously? We're still asking this question?
39I can see how some women would NEED this for protection but seriously... the string would give it away? One yank and it's out and it doesn't stop ANYTHING and maybe even angers them more.
Not safe, not sensible.
Since 80% of rapes that happen are by somebody the victim knows, how would this help anybody?
40Prettypear, VERY good point about the HIV. Yeah, this is just stupid. Carry around a tazer or something. It's impractical to have this device inside you every hour of every day just because someone might rape you.
41this is phenomenally stupid. I can only think of one good reason to use something like this, and it is revenge against repeated sexual assault from a spouse or family member. Even then, its fantastical, and the risks are too real to make this practical. Disease, it poking YOU, and the fact that a rapist would likely flip out in a murderous tantrum is the reality. The best protection against rape is intelligence, confidence, and some self defense skills.
42OMG I would never use that. I want to carry mace and perhaps go to some defense classes but I wouldn't do that.
But I agree with everyone else --- that would just enrage the guy and perhaps lead to worse happenings (i.e. death).
And ITA w/ Greggie's post #31. It is **never** a woman's fault when she gets raped... regardless of what situation she puts herself in. Also, I am a college student and there is no getting around having to walk on campus at night. Some situations are unavoidable.
43I would never put that inside me. I thought it was something you kept in your purse, too. No thanks!
44I *think* maybe the person who made the comment about avoiding situations where you can get raped might have meant that if you think you are going to raped to the point you put a femdefense in, you might be doing something unsafe and you should change that. If not...shame on you!!
Kikidawn- yeah, there are obviously situations where even when we know there is a risk and we can't avoid it, but that still doesn't make me want to use femdefense. Btw....I think that walking around (alone?) on campus late at night is not a good idea. If you can't walk with a buddy, why not call security for an escort...whenever I had to walk from campus to the dorms in undergrad alone I called for a ride. If you just mean walking to your car...yeah that is really tricky!
45"Since 80% of rapes that happen are by somebody the victim knows, how would this help anybody?"
That's exactly what I was thinking fluffyhelen.
46Is this a joke?
47I actually see this being used against douchebag ex-boyfriends more than rapists. Who wants to wear this every day anyway? And if you bend wrong?
I don't think that the rapist would immediately go into "I'm going to kill this b*tch" mode, however. The concept of any kind of fem self defense is just to get enough time to run away. He'd be shocked and wouldn't know WHAT happened, and in too much pain to get up and run after you. It'd give you plenty of time to use something else to hurt him or kick him in your area of choice, and run screaming.
48I don't think it'd be an intentional "kill the b*tch" mode. I'm talking about the natural reaction of jerking and lashing out. Even when I stub my toe, the first thing I do it kick and punch out my arm.
And if he's inside a woman (which he'd have to be in order to have been impaled on that), the chances of the woman being able to get herself out from under him would be slim if he's thrashing and howling. He's going to have major adrenaline running through him at that point, giving him a surge of strength.
I don't even think a woman would be able to get into position to run in that case.
49i agree with pretty pear.... bad idea ... glad it will never get approved .....scary to think about putting that inside...
