Dear Sugar
I am trying to overcome acne so I wash my face everyday with a cocoa butter bar and I use cocoa butter lotion. I've also cut out all sodas from my diet because I've heard they contribute to oily skin. Since I've started this regimen, my skin has cleared some, but I still have random scattered pimples.
However, since I do have less pimples than before, I've been noticing that now I these scar type dark spots on my face where my old blemishes once were. They make it look like my skin is marked and infected. My mother has recently purchased a bleach cream that is supposed to get rid of these kinds of dark spots, but I am reluctant to use it on my face because I have worked so hard to get my skin to the place it is now.
Since my skin is still not 100% pimple free, I'm wondering what you think my next steps should be to try and attain clear skin. Do you think that I should try this bleach cream? Also, should I be continuing my use of cocoa butter bars and lotions? Imperfect Illy

Dear Imperfect Illy
I can completely understand your reluctance to try a bleaching cream. Sensitive skin can have bad reactions to new products, especially strong products which can cause swelling, redness and even itching.
Most bleaching creams contain an ingredient called hydraquinone and should only be used on a short term basis. Another less toxic bleaching agent is called kojac. You can look to see if the cream that your mother bought has either of these ingredients in them.
Also, I suggest that you consult a specialist about your skin. Make an appointment with a dermatologist or facialist so that you can have a hands-on personal assessment of your skin. A doctor will be able to identify the correct products for your condition.
Something to consider is that if you are planning to get pregnant in the near future, it is important to avoid bleaching creams. Although there is no bad press about bleaching agents and fertility, there is suggested evidence that links birth problems with these agents. You never know, so I would not chance it. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I would definitely recommend Retin-A Micro. You'll have to see a dermatologist to get a prescription, but it is well worth it. It thins the skin out and actually takes care of acne and scars at the same time.
1Personally, I'd wait until your skin is completely clear of acne before you use the bleaching cream 'cos you don't want to undo all your hard work. I'm 23 and I still have the occasional outbreak. I suffer from red blotches on my skin after a particularly nasty spot, so I use Dermalogica Anti-bac skin wash and daily microfoliant (expensive, but they last a long time), Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion and The Body Shop's Vitamin E moisture cream (which doesn't make my skin greasy). You might be better using a lighter moisturiser than the cocao butter you've been using.
2Once you're acne has completely gone, try using Rosehip oil to help with the dark spots- but don't use it before then, otherwise it'll just make your skin greasy. Spots are so annoying
this sounds silly, but this summer my dad bumped his head, had a massive headwound and a pretty serious scar afterwards, but he since started using a Q10 cream (just nivea or something) and the scar is all but invisible now. it's true. perhaps this is something for you too. I for one wouldn't risk the aggressive bleachers
3I'd be wary of the bleaching cream, it sounds pretty harsh, especially for the face. I have really good luck with Penaten cream, it's an 18% zinc oxide cream sold in the baby isle at drug stores. A friend gave me the tip in college and i've been using it for years. Just apply it before bed on the effected area, it really clears up spots and causes scaring to fade through natural healing. Good luck!
4You can also massage your face to to avoid and prevent acne.Face massages applied to neuralgic zones of your face and body will help you improve your blood circulation, making your organism work in harmony and avoiding the accumulation of residues that cause skin problems. To know how to do it go here http://offto.net/acnevolution30less_bd05/

Acne Scar Removal News & Discussion
Very nice site!
7I have had sever acne in the past and was left with unattractive scars on my face.
I purchased the Dr. Max Powers Scar Serum from their website online - it was medium expensive for a scar cream - because I needed a solution. The Max Powers Scar Cream does work well, but don't expect to see results instantly. You need to apply it regularly and consistently for about a month in order to see results. It really does work though.
My scars are much more toned down and less visible.
8I began using the Dr Max Powers "Stretch Mark Treatment" every single day about two months ago and it works WONDERS. First you can use it for stretch marks and you can use it for scars and to moisturize your face and neck, ladies!
You must follow the instructions even though they are pretty simple. If I am using this for acne scars, skin discolorations (sun exposure), uneven skin tone I apply either over makeup (may not be recommended as this could remove your makeup)and on a freshly washed face.
I use the lengths of my fingers not fingertips since they produce the oils that could cause you breakouts from YES touching your face. I rub into the affected area or scar (even works on cystic acne scars) atleast two to three times a day when I am able to. But if not I do this at night before going to bed. Be patient and wait one to two weeks before you notice a big difference as the scar gets lighter your face appears to be glowing and skin discolorations slowly fade.
Keep on it atleast everyday. I thought it was only for men who workout - based on the way the product looks, but I am glad I bought this and one bottle lasted me over two months and I used it everyday! Give this product a try, be patient, follow the directions and you will not be disappointed.
