When it comes to using condoms, there are some great benefits, but there are also some drawbacks. Personally, I think condoms have a bad reputation. People hate that they can decrease feeling, but they can also make sex last longer, which is obviously a total plus! - They prevent pregnancy when used correctly (they're 85 percent effective).
- They can prevent STIs like HIV when used correctly.
- They're fairly inexpensive and easy to buy.
- They're easy to use.
- There are many kinds, colors, sizes, and flavors to choose from.
- If the woman has a latex sensitivity, polyurethane condoms are a great alternative.
- They don't affect your menstrual cycle, mood or weight like hormonal birth control can.
- They can help a guy last longer.
- They collect the man's semen, so the woman doesn't have to worry about it spilling out of her.
|
- They can be unromantic and ruin the mood when you have to interrupt foreplay to put one on.
- They can decrease sensitivity for both the man and the woman.
- Some women have a sensitivity to latex, which is the material that the majority of condoms are made of.
- Some condoms contain the spermicide Nonoxynol-9, which can cause irritation.
- The condom can fall or it can tear, resulting in possible pregnancy.

I am so sensitive to latex, so we dont use them. But when we did, my cats would run off with the wrapper. Ew. bad kitties. I would have to jump up and go find them before they ate it.
1Cat's are the weridest animals haha! Mine likes gross/creppy/weird stuff too...
2I am with Caterpillargirl in that I can't use them because I have a sensitivity to spermicide, and I later found out that the sensitivity also includes latex. I am not allergic though. I just have to either use one and grin and bear it, or be very careful with my pills and the pull-out method.
But the pull-out method is much more gross and causes more of a mess. I feel so bad for the boyfriend because he can't fully orgasm because we are so not ready for little ones!
3I don't use them because they're a hassle to deal with, and they do decrease feeling. I'm a firm believer that there's no point in having sex if it doesn't feel as good as it should. Luckily, my honey bunny and I are both STD free, and are financially secure enough that if I DID happen to get pregnant, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But I can see where they are beneficial to others.... they're just not for me.
4My boyfriend and I are both willing to sacrifice a little bit of feeling in order to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. Condoms for us!
5condoms and the pill. double up!
6When I first started having sex with my boyfriend we used the condom and pill and still freaked out about me getting pregnant, now we only use the pill. From the start he had issues with them because it limited the feeling for him. That caused tension between us for a bit, now we don't use them and sex has been great! Of course, both him and I make sure that I take my pill everyday at the same time because we really don't want a baby right now. If I were to get pregnant though, we'd keep the baby, so it doesn't bother me that we don't use condoms.
7Since I've been in a long-term relationship (5 years) and we were both tested early on, we've only had to resort to condoms when I forget my pill. We both hate them, they smell funny and they interrupt the mood. Plus my bf's a little, ahem, large and they only fit halfway down and always try to pop off. It turns into a comedy of errors with one of us trying to hold it on.
8Condoms are a must if you are having casual sex.. if your with your man and your both std free and your on the pill i dont think its a huge prob... pull out pull out pull out helps also less paranoia lol
9Wambalus, can't you just get bigger condoms?
Anyway...we don't mind them. Right now I'm on the pill, but we use them when needed.
10Condoms all the way! i just wish they wouldn't decrease the sensitivity.
11I think I'm alone in my love of condoms. I sincerely prefer using them, and even though I'm on the pill, we use them. I don't want to have to deal with a mess, and since my ladyparts are picky and prone to pH trouble, condoms keep me happy.
The only thing that I always tell people is this: Condoms do NOT protect you against HPV. You can pick up HPV even if you use condoms. It's a very common virus that usually clears up on its own, but still.
12I would never have sex without a condom. The idea of *not* is not just dangerous to me, but downright icky. Mostly icky, actually. I double up on my birth control with this and the pill.
13I'm not a fan of condoms. I have tried them and I just don't like them. The sex feels weird with one. They slip and get stuck. No NO NO... not for me. I do have 3 kids and they aren't condom problems but I did decide to get an IUD. Now we just go at it, clean up and get on with the day.
14I did try the pill but being a wife, a mother, and working I just couldnt remember to take them.
I dont want kids so condoms are a must. Even if i didn't they'd be very essential. They serve a purpose after all.
15I'm on Depo-Provera but my boyfriend still pulls out. Just in case. My friend's siser was ONE day late getting her shot and BOOM! she was pregnant.
16I'm on the pill and we always use condoms. My boyfriend is a bit on the paranoid side but who can blame him when neither of us are even out of college yet? We can't handle a kid right now!
Neither of us have gone without condoms so I guess ignorance is bliss! Don't know what we're missing until we get there
Mandiemeg- lol I like the "BOOM"
17Yeah, I use condoms and the pill, for extra safety, but I would add to the list of cons that they smell nasty. I hate how they make everything smell all latexy- total mood killer.
18My gf and I always use condoms, even though she's on the pill and we've both tested negative for STD's. This really shouldn't be a debate...I mean, maybe there's a little less senstivity, but is not using them worth getting an STD, AIDS, or pregnant?
Show me a Con that is equal to the Pro of not getting a disease that will forever screw up you life and I'd be impressed.
19i've been married for 11 years and we always use condoms! i have a latex allergy, so i am limited to two latex brands or polyurethane. even the lowest doses of the BCP wake me up in the middle of the night to vomit, so condoms are the choice for us.
for the larger gentleman who wants more feeling, i highly recommend lifestyles mega. they're new, and incredible. The Husband won't use anything else anymore.
20i don't like condoms. i was to get my tubes tied. unprotected sex is so natural and amazing.
21I used to be with someone who always used to complain about losing feeling from condoms, and so it took him longer to climax... Which is ironic because he never made ME orgasm through penetration.
Men: SUCK IT UP AND WEAR ONE IF WE ASK YOU TO. Bet your bottom dollar that if you asked a girl to go on the pill for you, she would.
22I HATE condoms. My hubby likes them, but I can't feel anything remotely pleasurable when we use them, which is extemely frustrating, especially when he's done and I'm not even remotely satisfied. That and I'm allergic to the laytex. So condoms are a no for me.
