As the custom goes, any two people who meet under the mistletoe are obliged to kiss. When I was little, I always thought it was a kind of creepy tradition (because I thought kissing was so gross), but now that I'm older, I think the idea is actually kind of sweet.
Not everyone agrees with me though, so I was wondering: How do you feel about this tradition? Do you hang out by the mistletoe or do you avoid it completely?

Some facts about Mistletoe:
---Its a parasitic plant which attaches itself and its root system to "host" trees, and can prove fatal if the infestation is large. Its often called the "vampire plant"
1----They are evergreen, hence during the winter months trees that lose thier branches easily show thier mistletoe "hanger-ons"
----Tradtionally, when cutting mistletoe for decoration you should not let it touch the ground, some houses kept the mistletoe up year round because it was thought to protect the house from fire or lightening strikes.
----A christian myth says that the cross jesus was crucified on was a mistletoe tree, but afterwords it shrank to its now smaller size.
---The leaves and twigs are used by herbalists to treat circulatory and respiratory illnesses. Its also being studied as a treatment for tumors
At my grandma's house theres a tree with Mistletoe growing on it. We always has mistletoe hanging above a door during X mas time. I love the idea, but I've only gotten kisses from my family members. Maybe one day I'll have a romantic Xmas kiss, but I love the tradition!
2I think it's pretty sad if you constantly stand under it in hopes of getting a kiss. I do however like the idea as it seems very romantic and you just happen to both walk under it at the same time or your lover brings it over the both of you and you can kiss.
3I havn't seen Mistletoe at a Christmas party since i was about 5.
4Whenever you begin a post with "What's the deal with...", I imagine that it's Jerry Seinfeld doing stand up comedy.
5Unfortunately i've never been kissed under a mistletoe
SO SAD...
But i think it's a cute idea
6I'm spending Christmas next year with my sweetie, so I'll have my first kiss under the mistletoe.
7I like the look of mistletoe so I like to decorate with it. And I don't analyze it very much; if I happen to be under it and someone kisses me, that's alright with me. It's all in fun.
8i've never been kissed under a mistletoe...but i think it is soooo great...the atmosphere...your love...it would be something wonderful...
9My boyfriend confused the hell out of me a few days ago. I was over at his house and his mother was having a cookie swap with some neighbors. We were helping carry some plates into the great room from the kitchen and he just stopped short in the doorway and turned around to look it at me, I started to shove him forward because he almost made me drop the plate, then he kissed me, grinned, and looked up. They had mistletoe hanging int he doorway and I didn't even notice.
10loves it!!
11i've never gotten a kiss under the mistletoe
the bf and i should get on that!
i do remember this one guy who had planned for a whole week to have a mistletoe encounter with me...but it backfired when i skipped class the last day before Christmas break! i only found out after all my friends told me how devastated he was...oops!
12never seen a mistletoe hung, but do people really see the damn thing and catch people standing under it when they had too much eggnog???
13Mistletoe is great especially if you haven't got someone to share the holiday season with....great opportunity to walk around with it in your hand and ask a hottie for a kiss.... can't refuse you in you have it at already at hand. You know how everyone gets drunk by the Christmas spirit (and i'm not talking about the alcohol induced kind)...it's fantastic...
14I just got my first kiss under the mistletoe. It was quite sweet, but my sister, who's 24 and old enough to know better, came up and slammed brownie on our faces. She said we were being gross until I told her there was mistletoe above us. She spologized and walked away. It was kind of funny.
