When the weather outside is frightful, it's almost impossible to hail a taxi.

To see some easy tips, click here to read more
- Call ahead if you can. Many cab companies have an automated service that will call you when your taxi has arrived so you don't have to wait outside in the cold.
- Always look for taxis with their light on.
- If you're close to a hotel or restaurant with valet, walk the extra block or so and ask them to help you get a cab.
- If you're hailing a taxi on your own, be sure not to stand too far in the street, and stay close to a street light so you can easily be seen.
- Head to busy corners with traffic flowing in both directions so you increase your odds of catching a cab.
Good luck and travel safely!

Hailing a cab in San Fran is a JOKE! It's the most ridiculous system I've ever seen definitely a part of why I won't be going back any time soon.
1hailing for a cab in NY is a joke especially if you're black. Just catch the train.
2I always laugh at the tourists in NYC cursing at cabs for not stopping when they so obviously have their Off Duty light illuminated, or they don't have any lights on, indicating they are occupied.
3I had no problem in SF, weird....they've always been so nice too.
don't need a cab...we love to drive in Cali.
4Unless you're DT in Calgary you NEED to call ahead!
5for the most part, i always manage to get lucky and when i walk outta a bar (the only time i ever take a cab) there is one right there in front of me!! haha.. watch now next time when i go out i wont be able to get one cuz i just said that!
6I don't trust the indicator lights on cabs - I've seen them be wrong too many times!
7I hailed my first cab in NYC last week. I felt so proud
I stood at a busy corner,
waited for a light that was on and raised my hand out.
8I could have used this when I went to the UK last summer. I had no idea how to hail a cab, even though I know how to do it in the US!
