Is America's Next Top Model really about modeling, or is it a place for Tyra to showcase her talents as an "eccentric" entertainer? In the following clip, Tyra dramatically announces to the models that all but one of them is going to China. She then gets down to brass tacks and gives sage modeling advice to Saleisha. Miss J seems impressed.

God I don't miss watching this show at all. It's gotten so whacked out.

3I have to say that this show is definitely not about modeling as this current cycle reveals. Tyra pontificates that the new ANTM should embody both beauty and be a role model; meanwhile, Saleisha is as fake as a plastic daisy, Bianca while having a beautiful smile has one of the ugliest personalities to ever be exhibited on ANTM, she is just plain horrible standing around rolling her envy eyes at everyone and Jenah's disappointing flat, sarcastic "whatever" personality combined do not celebrate any of the traits that Miz Tyra gushes on about.
Chantal is not a great model by any means, but at least she does show that she is human and has compassion.
While Heather is awkward, she is beautiful and she takes gorgeous pictures. She does look like a model; whereas the other girls really do not capture what we readers of Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Bazaar expect models to look like.
Moreover, Tyra and company were well aware of what Heather's communication limitations were before she came on the show and what this cycle lacks is any reflection on just how Tyra grows here girls in to top models.
ANTM is in great need of a huge overhaul as this current cycle of girls reveals. The "My Life as a Covergirl" further illustrates the limitations of Jaslene's career as a model and spokesperson.
