I assume that since you are a Dear Sugar reader, you have a few relationships under your belt.
I'm sure we've all gotten through the awkward and exciting experience of going from first base to all the way to home.
While going all the way is great, it seems like after you've done the deed for the first time, every time you get intimate after that it always leads to sex. You start off kissing and move onto other acts of foreplay, but it always ends up the same way. While I'd be happy with that outcome most of the time, whatever happened to good-old makeout sessions? I have such fond memories of French kissing on a guy's couch for hours and leaving it at that. It was so much fun, so exciting, and so innocent.
So I was wondering if you guys ever just make out anymore? Do you think it's possible to stick to first base after you've already hit a home run in the relationship? Or do you think that kissing always leads sex?

I have to agree. I miss just making out with my boyfriend every once in awhile.
That said, I'm not really complaining.
1noooo
I wish I still did.
2I used to sorta see a guy that just loved making out, he never tried anything more. and it was insaneeeeeeeeeee. it would just make me want to jump his bones. but now that im in a 1 year relationship, that NEVER happens. it's sad really. And i just avoid trying to JUST make out, because i know it will lead to more, and im not always in the mood for that. so yeah, i donno. Does ANYONE still do this? how do you get the guy away from the TV?
Of course we do.
3We never do anymore, it always leads home. Normally I'm happy with this, but there are times when I just want to kiss w/o the possibility of more. Unfortunately it seems to not work like that for us anymore. I may try to reinforce the simply intimacy again.
4My husband and I don't.
We have been together for 12 years and that seemed to stop sooo long
ago. Every once in a while...in a heat of passion...we will. But just sitting on the couch and then making out...nope.
5Make out? I don't think my guy has kissed me in months, let alone make out, or sex... this needs to be remedied... and quick

6but that story is for another topic...
Yup. Although it usually happens when we're drunk and in the campus bar, or the hallway by the bathrooms. Not the best situation, but I'm not complaining. And we do stop when someone makes some snide remark.
7Random, ha ha. I completely identify with you on that. That's about how things are in my current relationship.
8haha i still make out.. sometimes! lol when we go for lunch during the week when i get droped off we have a little 2 min make out session! haha.. i know its not that long.. but it still leaves me wanting more!...
i love it! but yes.. usually making out leads to sex haha
9haha not nearly as much as we used to. in fact, the night i met my boyfriend we made out for like 3 hours... i joke with him now and say 'damnit i want to make out' bc to him--it doesnt always lead to sex but he'll have to do something goofy in the middle..like i'll go in for a kiss and his tounge will be out or he'll lick my face or something and it kills the 'make out mood' bc ill start cracking up hah
10No, not really. Once in awhile there's some lingering kissing, but not a real make-out session. Sigh...........now I feel old.
11Definitely. I mean, it's not a very common occurrence, but it happens every once in awhile
12yep, yep
every so often we just get kissy face
13well my boyfriend and i started out as just casual sex partners and THEN we fell hard for each other.....so considering that YES we still make out and though its not as often as having sex it still happens.....maybe not for minutes on end but usually when he is leaving to go somewhere or if we wont see each other for a few days we will have a long drawn out french kiss and its amazing!!! every once in a while ill get the urge to make out with him while we are just watching TV and it is always nice =)
14Yeah- it always leads to other stuff.
15Oh yay!
16My boyfriend and I make out all the time!!! It's a quick sexy way to feel special and look forward to something a little more a little later
omg, i was JUST thinking about that the other night. not to say i don't love making love with my boyfriend, but damnit, sometimes i just want it to end at kissing!
why does it always have to lead to getting to home base? sometimes i actually try and cut the kisses short before it gets too passionate because i know it will lead to sex when all i want is to kiss!
sigh...okay now i just need to tell this to my boyfriend...but how do you bring that up??? "Honey, maybe we should forgo sex tonight and just stick to kissing?" hmmmm...just doesn't sound right! any tips ladies?
17kinda sometimes.
18NO, the closest we get to just making out is when it starts off that way and there is some type of interruption. I do miss it though.
19Nicachica... that's what I thought when reading this. I don't think could tell my boyfriend that!
It does make me sad that we don't kiss or make out anymore without it leading to sex or oral...
20*sigh* I miss making out.
21My husband and i make out all the time! Hey that sounds like a good idea when i get home from work!
22We make out sometimes, but I actually don't miss it.
23After we first had sex, my boyfriend and I haven't really made out anymore unless we were initiating something more.
24But there was this one time where we were watching a movie and it was cold outside; we just started making out. Just kissing and hugging -- nothing more. It was very nice. :]
I remember the days when making out was just making out. Oh sophomore year of high school! HAHA. Now, majority of the time making out leads to sex, unless I'm on my period or just really tired. I do miss just making out there. Something very sexy, yet innocent, about it.
25*though, not there.
26We're not at it constantly but yeah, we still do.My husband is a very affectionate person.
27I guess I'm in the minority but as soon as we start making out I _always_ want it to end in sex.
28My boyfriend and I do. It's awesome. Lil - My boyfriend licks my nose and acts like he was going to kiss me and I always laugh too!
29out my boyfriend and I been together for over 4 years. When we started going out OMG we would make out for so long and it was so much fun and I love it. Now we do not make out at all =( and I miss it. Now when we make out it always leads to sex. But its still a lot of fun.
and I love it!!!
30i really wish i could just makeout and not go for home run period...i love makingout...
31i have no one to make out with right now
*pout*
32but with my ex, it usually led to more..
yup and we've been together for 8 years (married for almost 2).
33Hmm..I will try this "making out thing" but I dont think its gonna work!
34I wish making out didnt end up with sex all the time...I just like to kiss sometimes.
35haha I asked my boyfriend of 3 years once this exact same question. Unfortunately his answer was pretty much... "why would I want to torture myself and leave it at that, it hurts"?
:
36Of course we can "just kiss" sometimes, but not one of those teenager-makeout sessions. :
yeah I do like it to end at kissing sometimes too!!!!!! But of course, guys....lol. Like a lot of people, I'm not saying I don't like it to keep going, but sometimes its nice to just kiss and be innocent.
37I absolutely love making out! I wish it wouldn't always lead to more. It makes me miss the days of when the relationship is fresh and we're just 'making out'.
38oh my god my boyfriend was being all romantic and cute the other day saying that he misses just kissing and stuff. its hard with the distance; like when we see each other we kinda just wanna get it on; but we both do agree we miss just laying together and that other connection we get when we just make out.
hes coming home tomorrow and i am way excited!
39I love love making out. I haven't seen my man in almost 2 weeks... so there will be some making out tonight!!
40yeah, we do. it's great
41omg! I'm not alone here. lol! I swear, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. It's so sad. I miss those days, of just kissing and no more. *long sigh* lol! I wish there was a way for my man to know and understand this. ha ha ha! How can I tell him this????
42I miss making out as well! We hardly ever do that anymore beacause it gets him too excited. He always says "babe please, lets not kiss so hard anymore because Im gonna want to have sex and I know you probably won't want to."
43i miss just making out but hardly these days...cos he gets too excited and want to eventually go all the way
44i totally miss the days of making out just for the sake of making out... not because its foreplay or out of obligation!
45I remember those days, making out on the couch, being able to say "no" to more and have it respected. I miss "making out" for what it was, a very enjoyable experience that had boundaries. I remember making out with my new boyfriend, in his 4x4, in front of my apartment building, with the truck running, in the winter with snow outside - for 3 hours! THAT was so hot. We were so caught up in the enjoyment of it that we didnt want to ruin it by going inside. My current boyfriend, however, if I even TOUCH him or show the slightest bit of affection he thinks its ok to jump my bones and have instant sex. I gotta tell you, it's unwelcome and quite a turnoff. Yes, I'm actively getting out of this relationship, no romance, no fun, NO MAKING OUT. Sigh!
46'Course we do. It's fun. Especially if you're someplace you either shouldn't be at all or shouldn't be playing.
47We do it quite some..
It's fun and a good way to spend time.
48Making out precedes intimacy. Once a couple has been intimate, the long passionate kisses for the sake of kissing diminishes.
49The best way to make sure that it is just making out is when your on a time frame or period or don't have protection or something...just make sure you are both responsible.
