Dear Sugar,
My husband is taking me on a cruise in January and we are planning on renewing our vows on ship. We had a very small wedding 32 years ago and I didn't get to wear a wedding gown. I have always dreamed of wearing a glitzy dress but would it be inappropriate for me to do so while we renew our vows? — Over the Top Tammie

Dear Over the Top Tammie,
First of all, congratulations on 32 years of marriage. You have a reason to celebrate if I've ever heard of one! Since you never got to fulfill your dream of a glamorous wedding dress the first time around, by all means, go for it this time, Tammie!
Renewing your vows is a celebration between you and your husband so you guys get to make up the rules. It is absolutely not inappropriate to wear an elaborate dress even if it's not your first time saying I do, so go make your wedding dress dreams come true and enjoy being a princess for the day. Good luck.

Awwww...Congratulations! Of course you should go for a wedding dress! I'm sure you'll look absolutely beautiful. Have fun on your cruise...
1I agree! I am making plans for our 10th anniversary and have some ideas about a wedding "do-over" to do some things we did not get the chance to do the first time. Being married is great, so you might as well celebrate it!
2I love that you're going to renew your vows. That's sweet and romantic and inspiring. Absolutely wear the wedding dress of your dreams. Have a wonderful, romantic trip, and post pictures of the dress you choose.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!
3First off Congrats!!!!!!!! YOu should wear the wedding dress. my aunt and her husband who have been married 30 years had a wedding redo and she wore a dress. it was beautiful and it just made the ceremony that much better.
4Congratulations!! This is YOUR renewal ceremony, wear what you want!
5P.S. Don't worry about whether anyone else thinks its inappropriate! When they have 32 happy years of marriage under their belt, then they can disapprove all they want.
6Definitely wear a wedding gown! Anything goes these days. You'll be gorgeous!
7Definitely wear what you want to wear. Girl, you deserve it and I'm sure when you're happy the hubby is too.... Have fun and Congratulations!
8Of course. This day is about you and your husband and if this is what you want - GO FOR IT! And congratulations I hope you have a blast!
9My parents have been married for 31 years next year- when they got married it wasnt a huge affair- it was my mom's second wedding (the first time around she was young and stupid and desperate to get out of the small town she grew up in). It kind of makes me sad for my father. It was his first and only wedding and I wish they had done a little more. Mom wasnt wearing a real wedding dress, no veil or anything (she didnt think it was appropriate since she had been married before).
I wish they would do a vow renewal and have a bigger event. I just got married myself this year and it was so wonderful. I say go all out and have a great time!
10I suggest wearing the most Glamourous dress you can find. I also think you should hire someone to do your makeup and hair.... and get the most expensive pair of shoes that youll only wear once... hunny, you deserve it all! Congrats!
11lol, after 32 years you get to call the shots! enjoy the celebration of YOUR MARRIAGE anyway YOU want. then post pix so we cn share your joy
12Go for it!!
13You deserve it... wear a wedding gown!
1435 years? You deserve a cruise AND a wedding gown! I say do it... and if onlookers think you're crazy, WHO CARES! Its your day and you deserve to feel glamorous! If I was on the cruise with you I'd be thinking you're so lucky to be able to get the opportunity to do it! Take advantage of your special time and live it the way you want to! Yay! Im happy for you! Have fun!
:D:D
15Wear whatever you want, you deserve it!
16After 32 of marriage, wear whatever you want!
17Congrats on staying together for that long. As a wedding planner ANYTHING goes. It is what you are comfortable with and many times women like to learn from mistakes they made when they first got married - aka make up for the big poofy sleeve and bangs from the 80's!!
18you should deffinately wear a wedding dress!! espically if you didnt get to the first time
19Congrats!! Go all out!
20Absolutely!! Wear an awesome dress. Have an amazing time! Congrats!
If it makes you feel better my grandparents renewed their vows for their 50th wedding anniversary and my grandma bought another wedding dress just because she wanted to! She looked good and no one really thought it was odd that she was wearing a wedding dress.
21I wouldn't say anything goes these days
... but as many people have already stated
there is nothing wrong with wearing a wedding dress for your vows renewal. If women and men can have lavish affairs for third and fourth weddings, you can wear whatever you want to celebrate
32 years of marriage!
22My parents just renewed their vows this past July on a cruise actually! It's your wedding so in my opinion it's you special day once again! You can pick whatever youd like! My mother picked out a sparkly ivory gown that was all lace and detailing. It's your wedding so of course youre allowed to wear an actual wedding dress!
23Go for the dress! And if anyone says something about, ask them how long they've been married. Not many couples make it to 32 years! That's awesome, keep up the hard work!
24Go for it! Go get that dream dress and have a blast!
25Awesome! Congrats:) Definitely wear the dress. My husband and I ran off and eloped in our jeans at the courthouse 7 years ago and are now planning our "wedding" for our 10 year anniversary and I'm wearing a real dress!
26I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 30 YEARS, THIS JULY, WE HAVE DECIDED TO RENEW OUR VOWS, MY FIRST WEDDING DRESS,IT WAS NOT AT ALL WHAT I WANTED, DID NOT LIKE THE PHOTOS, THIS TIME I HAVE THE CHANCE TO HAVE THE DRESSES I ALLWAYS WANTED, IT'S WHITE AND BEAUTIFUL DO YOU FEEL THATS OK?? SANDRA
