I didn't grow up watching sports. So when I started dating guys who were way into sports, I didn't know what to think. At first, it kind of annoyed me for two reasons: 1.) I didn't like anything that took time and attention away from my relationship, and 2.) I didn't understand what the heck was going on.
Then I dated a guy who wanted to share sports with me (the first present he ever gave me was a hat from his favorite baseball team). He explained the rules of the games, the history of the teams, and then I actually started enjoying watching sports with him. So now when I see a guy watching sports, I love it. There's something irresistible to me about a man drinking a beer and yelling at the TV with all his buddies.
So what do you think about guys who watch sports? Do you think it's a turn on or a turn off?

My boy's from Africa but we're in the US. He only likes cricket and soccer--both are hard to come by here, so it's fine by me! I'd rather let him watch an occasional Manchester United match when it's on TV than football every Sunday!
1Most of my boyfriend's friends are single...so him sitting in front of TV watching other men is a lot better than hearing them talk about some girl on TV. Plus its cute when they do the typical guy thing and I usually like to watch the game too. Even when they act like idiots.
2Its a turn off for me, why? because i grew up with a father who was Football crazed, we had One tv and he was in charge of it, that meant that whenever it was football season, i could forget about watching my shows, it also meant lots of shouting, alcohol and mayhem and I grew to resent sports. I married a man, who could care less about sports, and by care less I mean he doesnt own one shirt, one hat, one iota of any team logo anywhere. its awesome.
Sidenote-we live in one of the biggest college football towns Gainesville Florida, and Gator fans are looney. On fridays at my work everyone wears "gator colors" to show spirit, i dont own anything gator colored or gator logoed and believe me i get strange looks. I will tell them outright that i dont give a rip.
3I love sports, therefore it is a major turn on to see a guy get into a game.
4My teams are often rivals for my BFs teams, so it makes for some fun playoff 'bets'...
I definitely find it sexy
5I love watching HOCKEY with my boy and his buddies... I love the sport and grew up watching the Habs kick butt
He's a Leafs fan so it creates some fun tension
6Total turn-off. Yuck. That's a dealbreaker for me, I will NEVER date a fanatical sports fan. My boyfriend never watches sports and it makes me love him even more.
7I love it. I rarely watch with him, but I love knowing that on Sunday afternoons, the game is on and he'll be watching, so I can run my errands then, go out to lunch, whatever.
And baseball season. I love baseball season.
8i like it! turns me on!... i dunno why! lol.. i just love that my boyfriend loves to watch sports and gets so into it.. its just like yea that my ruff and tumnble boyfriend who loves sports and being a guy!! hahaha as silly as it sounds!
9i love watching (and playing) sports, so if a guy isn't into them, it's pretty much a turn off for me!
10My husband hates sports, but he makes up for it by zoning in front of his computer every night. So annoying...at least with game, it has an ending time, ya know?
11CaterpillarGirl, you sound like a pleasure to work with...
12I love when boys watch sport! They get so into and emotional, and guy tipically are not like that! So you get to see what they are really like! Muhwawawa!
13Same with watching guys playing vids...it's so funny! I laugh at them all the time!
It's fine as it gives me time to do my own thing. I do worry about him coming home from football matches - we're all a bit rough here in Glasgow...
14lilegwene, I am a pleasure to work with! I just dont like sports.
15Fanatic sports fans freak me out, and the guys who obsessively follow the sports seasons are boring. Turn OFF.
16Doesnt matter to me...
My boyfriend is a chef and he would rather drink a beer and watch Iron Chef!
17Before my hubby and I got married, I didn't care for it much. But then I eventually started to love what he loved. And now that I'm a sports nut myself, it's a huge turn on.
18I'd rather have my bf watch sports and get excited over his team than let's say...some girl on tv? lol. Joking aside, my bf is a big football fan, but not a crazy fanatic. So as long as he doesn't go overboard than it's a turn on.
19I used to care about sports more when I was younger, and a bit of a tomboy. Now they don't interest me as much, and my boyfriend is by no means a die hard sports fan, which I like. I wouldn't want to date a sports fanatic.
20My boy is big into board sports...when we started dating I didn't get it, but he made me watch snowboarding/skateboarding videos CONSTANTLY... the more I watched, the more I became intrigued... now I'm big into skateboarding and snowboarding myself... I even have my own boards and go with him whenever he goes... hes 100X better than me, but he thinks its great that I try tricks and things just to hang out with him and take an interest in what he loves...its fun for sure
21I love it, as long as they aren't more important the me! My guy has his priorities straight.
22i like watching baseball so if my guy likes it, too, which he does, then great!
23It's kind of a turn off for me, I don't care for sports and find watching them to be completely boring. If a guy doesn't spend tons of his free time watching though, it wouldn't be too big of a problem.
24Its definately a turn on for me. I'm a sucker for a manly man. After the game, he should go outside and work in the yard for a bit, then build something.
25I love baseball, so I knew that I wanted a man who was into sports as well. I'm not sure I knew what I was getting into with my hubby though! Very fanatical. But I admire his devotion.
Turn on.
26I like manly-men, but sometimes sports are sooo boring. Oh well.
27I don't like watching sports... I prefer to play sports. I quickly found out that my lovely boyfriend (of 8 years and counting) is obsessed with sports... especially the losing Jets. When I first found out, I thought it was endearing... if the man could be so passionate about a losing sports team, and stick by them for 20+ years, he had the ability to be a loving and good partner (through good and bad times). So it might get annoying at times (when he's glued to the TV, or taking road trips to games), but I try to remember that this passion is what attracted me to him in the first place!
28Masqueraded-Angel - you make a good point about a game vs. the computer and the game having an ending time.
I can go either way. I grew up in a house with 4 brothers and a father who were interested in all sports: Baseball, football, basektball, and a mother who was a tennis fanatic. So I can plop in front of any game and enjoy it. That being said, my fiance is European and has a decided disinterest in most sports, and I can't say that I mind at all.
29Turn on for me. It's nice for them to be passionate about something, plus I was a huge tomboy when I was little so I understand it. I think my dad wanted a son so I was raised on the Orioles, drag racing, Washing Bullets/Wizards, Washington Capitals, and the whole family is Redskins obsessed. It still amuses me when guys are surprised when I ask if they know what channel the Redskins game might be on (that may also be because I go to school in Long Island and everybody here are Giants/Jets fans), or I ask if anybody would want to go to the Islanders vs. Rangers game with me.
30Turn-off. Occasionally doesn't bother me, but I hate the hysterical sports announcers and having them on all the time would irritate the hell out of me. Plus, I'm just not that into sports and I like having interests in common with my hubby. We get worked up analyzing books and tv shows instead of sports, and I'm happy with that state of affairs.
31I absolutely love it! I never cared for watching sports but my boyfriend is the biggest Cleveland Browns fan, so we get up early every Sunday to go to the bar and watch them play. Beer and wings for breakfast AND I get to wear cute jerseys? I win! It's just something nice we can do together
32There is certainly a point where the sports could be an issue if there was an obsession, but for the most part I think it's great. One of my boyfriends hated all sports, and it sucked. But then another one had to be at a bar all day Sunday to watch all the football games - that was a problem! I am a sports fan, so I like a guy who is as well.
33love it, my boyfriend is a crazy hockey fan and he brings me to plenty of games, i love it so much.
34I wouldn't say a guy who loves watching sports is a "turn on," but a guy who doesn't like sports is such a turn off! I feel a guy who doesn't like sports is sort of feminine, and I really hate that! I grew up with a father and brother who are obsessed with sports, so I guess I just understand and am tolerant of men's obsession with sports. Boys and their balls!
35citizenkane, That's a good one. You're right!
My husband is a normal sports fan. He doesn't cry if he misses a game or if his team loses. On the other hand, he gets annoyed at me when I ask him to explain the rules and/or why they did what. How am I going to learn? The only thing my dad watched was boxing!
My brother-in-law, on the other hand, is a little much. He is quick to yell & swear & get really pissy. You can actually hear him from the side-walk. His extra big & tall ass has also been known to break recliners, from all of his flouncing around. Idiot.
36I am way more of a fanatic than my husband, in fact I planned our wedding around the schedule. I love watching games with him.
I am, however, glad that he is not so obsessed that it takes over our lives.
37I like to watch sports myself so someone who also watches is fantastic.
38I'm into sports myself, but it depends which sport. I can't stand to watch curling, racing, or golf because they're sooooo slow. I'm not too keen on football or baseball either, but if the players actually move their bottoms to get the game going I don't mind. Basketball is something I love to play but hate to watch. The only sport I really like to watch is hockey...but that's because I'm Canadian so it's in my DNA somewhere.
39The first year we were together, there was never anything about sports and then one day out of the blue he said something like "We're totally gonna kick blahblahs ass in the next game!" I laughed hysterically. Since when was he a "we" with a team?? It was adorable. It's the baseball team from where he was born (Detroit).
We got free tickets to the season opener for the Raiders and he explained stuff to me. I've never really been into football all that much or paid attention to it, it's the lame version of rugby to me.
He thinks it's adorable how much I love the NZ All Blacks and rugby. So, it all works out.
40I don't care either way.
41I am way more into watching sports than my boyfriend. But occasionally we'll watch a game together and it's fun.
We'd both rather be out playing sports. And for me, that is a major turn on.
42I think it is cute when they watch sports and really get into it. It is their one thing that they can do.
43I absolutely love watching sports. Be it baseball, basketball, hockey. My favorite sport to watch on TV is football. So I think guys who watch sports are sexy. Plus it really helps to have that one person to watch them with.
44I love watching Football games with my man. In fact, Sundays are usually cleared so that we can lounge around and yell at the TV all day, or go to a friend's house and yell at their TV. I grew up with my parents throwing watch parties on Sundays, when the Cowboys were winning Super Bowls every year. My ex didn't watch football, so for a couple of years I didn't get to partake in the excitement. Now, I don't know what I'd do if I was dating a guy who didn't like to watch football. It'd likely be a deal breaker, but I don't have to worry about that ever again...
45I love it when guys teach me things and still act sexy with me in front of the guys. Its nice to watch a bunch of guys screaming and arguing instead of bickering like us girls do during a game.
46you cannot stop men from watching sports. it's how they communicate and it places them squarely in their comfort zone. best learn the language and join in or at least tolerate it good-naturedly because this stuff is crazy important to guys. if you share a sports-related activity with your man and show him that you can speak with reasonable knowledge on his favorite subject, it can only enhance your relationship. now, if only he would put the same effort into your hobbies
47I hate this more than I could possibly describe. All I can say is I'm lucky to have found a boyfriend who does not watch sports. Ever.
48Turn off unless he is able to take care of his other responsibilities, before and during the game.
49I agree with Citizenkane
