Have you been keeping up with "Gossip Girl"? The narrator sure knows how to stir the pot; running her mouth, gossiping to no end about all of her friends and telling their deepest, darkest secrets.
We all know that gossip can really hurt people, especially when people's chatter is based on a bunch of lies. But what if all that idle talk is true? Is it still considered gossip? What I want to know is, if people are talking about others, and everything they are saying is true, do you consider it to be gossip?

i consider it gossip when you say something to other people, that you haven't or wouldn't say to the person.
1i don't think all gossip is bad. as long as there is no malicious intent, then why does it matter. half the fun in life is talking about other people, whether if its for a laugh, or just to judge. everybody does it, n if u say u dont, ur just lying to yourself.
2I personally try not to waste my time talking about other people in any way: I've got much more important things to do with my time and energy.
I find that when you talk about someone and they are not present, whether it's true or false, it always gets back to the other person and it's usually a misconstrued version of what you said. Gossip, spreading truth or lies, is just not worth the hassle.
3I view gossip as something that is said in a mean, disparaging, or scandalous way - true or not.
4gossip is gossip regardless TRUe/not.
5Yes, I think it's still gossip! But here's the thing, I agree with the fact that we will talk about people good or bad... and that's still gossip. I also try not to gossip about people & but when I do, I would totally say it to their face. So, I try to not be the b*tch that talks behinds peoples' backs.
6Of course the truth is still gossip! And it's the best kind of gossip, spreading false rumors about someone is just mean.
7its not gossip, its simply information sharing. its the speculation that's gossip.
8I was raised that gossip is something you would not say in front of the person about whom you are speaking.
9why isn't my comment showing up on here?
10Oh, there it is.
11I voted 'Yes' here, but I actually think there's a mix of that and the 'No' verbage. We all gossip to some degree, and it's fun! But I agree with rubialala that if it's something you wouldn't say in front of the person, then it's gossip.
12I agree with the consensus. Whether or not it's true, it's gossip if you wouldn't say it in front of the person. And it's gossip if it's a secret.
13If its the truth, it still depends on the delivery.
14Of course it's considered gossip!
15I knew this girl EXACTLY like the narrator in Gossip Girl haha!
Wow! She was a BAD gossiper! But, you know, karma is a b*tch
What goes around comes around!
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I think of gossip as more relating to how it paints the person you're talking about and how they would react to that characterization. If you're telling a story of what you say and it's true and the person would be embarrassed (or angry, or some negative thing) to know that others are talking about it, then it's gossip. But if the person would probably be laughing along with it, then it's not.
16i think yes it is gossip.
