I got 5/5 but what I'm really wondering is, why do I know so much about genital warts?

Huh. I thought genital warts have cure, I know for sure HPV virus doesn't have cure.
But the warts can still be cured by treatment...which means that the genital warts is curable although the virus HPV will still remain on the body, no? Oh well. Trying to argue the no. 5

genetal warts can be removed, but the virus that causes them is still in your body. you can go long periods of time without having any warts, from what i understand...

but i think HPV in general is kinda tricky. a lot of doctors give conflicting opinions of whether HPV can be cured. some doctors say absolutely not, while others say your body can clear it up...or maybe it just lays dormant during that time. who knows? i've had two doctors tell me two different things (i know several people with HPV, but none with the GW strain, at least that i know of).

jenintx - you're right. Some doctors will say that there is a cure for genital warts. But when you have the HPV virus in you body, you can get rid of existing warts, but there's always a chance more can show up down the road. It's not like you can get rid of the warts once and be done. You always need to be on the look out for another breakout.

Plus like I said above, sometimes the warts are inside you, so you don't even know you have them. You can think you've gotten rid of them, but you really haven't. Even if there are no visible symptoms of the HPV virus, it can still be transmitted to an uninfected person.

The HPV virus that causes genital warts will always be in your body, and it can cause changes in the cells of your cervix, which can lead to cervical cancer. So once you contract genital warts or HPV, you have the risk of developing cervical cancer fort the rest of your life. That's why it is said that there is NO cure.

I feel the need to clarify some things here that are a bit misleading. First, HPV is a virus. You can NEVER get rid of a virus. Just for the simple fact that viruses are not living, and therefore not be killed. They can remain dormant and decrease in viral load to a point of not displaying symptoms. However, a virus can and usually does cause symptoms in times of compromised immunity, ie stress, sickness, etc. 2. Yes, genital warts are most often diagnosed with a physical exam. The strains of HPV that cause cervical cancer are not diagnosed with a Pap smear. Pap smears can indicate changes in cervical cells, which may or may not be caused by HPV. Cervical trauma can also cause changes. If the Pap finds suspicious changes, the patient will then have a colposcopy, a close up view up into the cervix. The doctor also usually takes biopsy samples. These tissue samples are then analyzed for cancerous changes and the HPV if specified. Usually MDs are reluctant to run this test, bc it is usually just assumed that if you have cervical changes, you have been exposed to HPV, without a need for a definitive diagnosis.

I only knew so much about them because I've had them. Dammit! : / I know enough to not get them again and have regular pap smears to check for new ones!

Many doctors have told me that if you do not get a breakout for 2 years or more then the virus has passed through your body naturally and the chances of it coming back are really really small. I believed them so I hope its true!

I went out with somebody last year who's ex-wife (wife, he went back to her..) had them.

Talk about a massive panic! He went and got checked and was clean so all was good but eww? She told him that she got them from having sex too much.

100%!! i know these things because i suffer with it everyday :/ sadly. HPV has no cure but they do give u meds to suppress the warts. and that's a very good thing!
