I'm listening to ultra-right wing radio host Mark Levin propagandize his audience about the public option as we speak. It's such a no brainer, but you have the portion of the population that's susceptible to angry messages being fed lies about a "government takeover" of health care. He is making them scared for their very lives.
At the end of the day, you have to ignore these drones and pass it anyway. You can't reason with them or compromise with them.
I'm excited about better days for our health care system being ahead of us!
1Hmm.. Who are these people being polled? I would love to know.
2Who's being polled? Off hand, I'd say a random, statistically-valid sample size to bring the mathematical margin of error down below 3 percent. So, between 2000 and 5000 people.
This is called science. I know a certain political party likes to deny it. It's a better method than say, just believing whatever reconfirms what you already think to be true.
3While by no means perfect, knowing that if I or someone I love needs medical attention, all I (they)need to do is go to a doctor or to a hospital without worrying about a payment plan is fantastic. As much as I like certain things in the States, I would never trade my life in Canada for one south of the border.
4Oh forgot to add, hope one day you guys can have a proper healthcare system.
5Come on Public Option.
6Spacekatgal - I know what you mean about conservative news talk shows...it's infuriating, how many people listen to that crap and believe every word they hear. My grandma recently started following these political news shows and now she posts rants and raves all over facebook about how Obama's a Nazi and democrats are socialists...**Sigh** oh grandma....
7Polls can get a "scientific" sampling size, but how they come out depends on how you word the question. The WP/ABC question is something generic about making government insurance available for people who can't afford private insurance. When asked if people support that even if it meant losing their employer-based insurance, the issue polls 2-to-1 against the public option.
I'm more interested in the fact that the same poll as the one cited above still has more people opposed to the current bills in Congress than supportive. Maybe we'd all feel better about the process is we felt confident our Congressional representatives were reading these massive tomes.
BTW, on the "who gets polled" question, when I lived in DC I got polled for everything. I'd get at least one phone call a month from some organization (government and media organizations included) asking questions; sometimes the questions were so biased to elicit certain answers I'd start laughing, and they'd inevitably hang up on me.
8I think they should've worded it differently. Public Health Insurance option from what I've seen what they're trying to change is the current insurance system.
9I just don't see private insurance competing against public/government-run insurance program, the latter has bottomless money (from taxpayers).
I live in Oregon, and hardly got any poll questions. At all.
I have to say this whole polling thing.. i dont buy it. Period. And I have a feeling those who do buy it only do so on a convenient basis.
10I believe it should be like it is in france and I believe Canada. The public should not be fined because they cant buy white house insurance!!!! That is ridiculous!!We need to be a better country with our insurance
