If you've been snippy lately, hurry up and get outside before Winter arrives! According to researchers at the University of Rochester, spending time in nature makes us nicer. A scientist behind the study explained:
"Now we’ve found nature brings out more social feelings, more value for community and close relationships. People are more caring when they’re around nature."
Seems like they're telling us that next time we feel like telling someone to "take a hike!" we should take one ourselves.
I typically experience nature with a day in the park or a weekend trip out of the city for some hiking or camping. I've always felt that getting outside was a way to be nice to myself, since I feel calmer and more relaxed after. But apparently it makes me nicer to other people too! Do you spend time in nature? Has it made you feel like a nicer person?

This is the reason I love summer. I get to spend a lot of time outdoors and it makes me feel good and that in turn makes my attitude more pleasant. I notice during the winter I am more grumpy and tired and that is when I wish I could just step outside with bare feet and feel the warm sun on my skin.
1I've always found nature to be very spiritual. It's just beautiful, and amazing, sublime, and it puts me in a very peaceful state of mind. I love going for hikes and drives into the country. Though I feel nicer, I find people can ruin that mood... like trying to experience an overcrowded park or beach.
2Exactly Pistil. I feel the same way. Or people who don't follow signs to stay on the trails or those who litter in parks etc. I just don't get it.
It's why we choose more secluded spots and less popular hiking trails, we like feeling like we're the only people in the world for a little while. Our children like it too.
3I crave nature. I like to breath it in and dig my fingers in it. I feel healthy after a day of that.
4I love nature when it is 78-83 degrees.
5I agree. Nature does make us nicer in more ways than one. Taking a walk in the forest or park is always a good way for me to de-stress. I love the spring and summer greens and the autumn rainbows.
