The Exxxotica Expo opened today in Edison, NJ, for the second year in a row, meaning that blushing city officials failed in their attempt to prevent the porn convention from coming to town.
The city, hell-bent on keeping local fans from meeting their favorite porn stars, passed an ordinance that prohibited sexually oriented products at gatherings within 1,000 feet of a school, church, hospital, or playground. Only problem? The convention is being held more than 1,000 feet from any of those sites. Score one for the porn stars.
The city's focus on the annual convention borders on an obsession. It's become a major issue in the town's mayoral race, and one candidate produced ads that say: "Mayor Candidate Says YES to PORNO!" The candidate under fire for not getting on board the anti-porn convention train responded by saying, "No, it's not something that I would personally approve of. By the same token, I don't think we should be foisting our personal values upon everyone else, unless they're harmful.”
Do you agree, or would you be bothered if a porn convention came to town?

It's a freedom of speech issue. Of course not.
1She is gorgeous.
2This is so ridiculous. There is absolutely no reason why they can't hold a porn convention, other the prudes opposing it. Bill of Rights, people. I say "YES to PORNO!"
3I agree with the candidate. It's not like it's an all ages event that everyone is being forced to attend.
4"No, it's not something that I would personally approve of. By the same token, I don't think we should be foisting our personal values upon everyone else, unless they're harmful.”
Go this ^ guy!!!! I vote for him.
5As a former resident of Edison, NJ, I think the fact that they are making such a big deal out of this is ridiculous, but at the same time, I'm not so surprised because of the many bad experiences I've had with the local legislature.
I think that they should just let the porn convention be. The kids rarely even hear about things going on at the convention center, so it won't really affect them at all. In fact, publicizing this so wildly may even be counterproductive on that point.
6Let it be. Who cares. Really, as long as it's well lit and safe, and they check IDs at the door, I could care less.
7I live just a few towns over and hadn't even HEARD of the porn convention until I heard about the controversy over it. If anything, they're only helping the convention be a bigger success!
8I don't see anything wrong with a porn convention, so props to the organizers for finding the spot! I hope the candidates realize that opposing this also says that they oppose the first amendment.
Totally agree with the smart guys running who "support" the porn convention.
9Edison is a pretty scummy town as it is so a porn convention should fit right in there
10I'd be kinda bothered, but I really don't think there's anything the law can do to stop it. Adult porn is not illegal, so an adult porn convention can't be either!
11I personally wouldn't be bothered. It's not gonna affect me if it's here or in a different place....so it's kinda silly that they're being wound up tight about this convention.
It's not like they'll let anyone go to the convention. I'm pretty sure you're gonna have to ID people coming in just so that it stays adult-orientated.
12Haha, I just find it hilarious that they managed to pass a zoning law against it... that didn't actually help at all!
13Um So You can't have a sex toy party with your girlfriends if you live across the street from a church or school ?? ?
